My experience has been that livestock guardian dog breeds crossed with herding dog breeds dont make very good farm dogs!

I have a friend that was trying to find a home for some english shepherd pups..not sure if she still has them or not. Es are great all around farm dogs. Another friend has 2 pyranese cross pups that have been raised around horses and goats..not sure about how they are around chickens. If anyones interested in either let me know and i'll send you their email address!

Ive got a really cute tiger striped female kitten that would LOVE a new home! Shes about 6 weeks old and eating solids well. My dogs are bad about getting and playing with any kittens they find, which of course usually ends in the kittens death

So if i find the kitten first and its old enough to leave mom i bring it in til its old enough that they wont bother it. Which doesnt go over well with my hubby!

Has anyone used Prague Meat Locker before? I just took in a 75 lb lamb and got back 14 lbs of meat..bone in even! I am soooooo not happy! He told me that the dressed weight was 42 lbs and he *cut it up the best he could*! Thats not very good in my book! And he didnt even save me the scraps for the dogs like i ask..probably because he didnt want me to see how much he wasted! Id really like to know if this kind of work is common for them or if he just got tired and sloppy cause he doesnt like doing lamb?

Summerwinds, thank you for offering the kitten, but you are about an hour and a half drive for me.

My dad took a deer to a local processor several years back, and they lost it! How do you lose something like that!? And then last year the place got busted for being a drug house. Go figure!

Thanks, Cammie for the compliment. I'm heading to the PHBA World next week. We're ready, so hope we have some good runs in our classes (the horse I have now, is a grandson of my World Champion 'speeder' Miss Eternal Quest - a grand daughter of the famous and immortal Man O War on the top side (daddy) and a grand daughter of the mighty Seabiscuit on the bottm side (momma) - No wonder she could RUN!

HEY!! Saw ya today....wish I had more time to chat, but my 85 year old Mom was pooping out on me and I needed to get her home - we had our manicure and pedicures - I treated:))))

The Harrah auction is at the Harrah Lumber & Feed Store in downtown Harrah. I'm not quite sure of the mileage from the I-40 and Harrah Newalla Rd. exit, but I'd guess around 8 miles or so North of I-40, and once you get into downtown Harrah, you turn left and go about a block. Maybe somebody else on here knows the exact address? You can probably google or mapquest a map of it. The auction begins at 5:00 pm with goats selling first, then junk, then eggs, then chicks, then poultry/rabbits. I hope to see you there!

Monty, I hope you can make it, and sure hope you're feeling better soon. I'd like for you to explain to Gerald your snake catching technique so that he can do the dirty deed! I'm not too good at killing anything. Also, I intend to catch a few phoenix to put in the auction, but will probably wait to see what you say about them before I sell any more. I really think they are bantam phoenix. And, I intend to bring a pair of 2 month old "welsummers" to put in the auction ... I'd like to see if you think that they're purebred ... I bought them as chicks at the Blue auction.

See ya'll there!

NNbreeder, Sorry we missed you and glad you got home ok.
There was some big news that came out of the Harrah auction tonight, but I will let Carla share it since I was outside when they said it. I left early because I wasn't feeling well. I did get some black sex links for a friend.
But I missed getting to bid on some of Carla's birds.

The bad news is that the owner/operator of the Harrah Auction announced that today was the last auction to be held there. He said he made up his mind tonight. I know that earlier this evening, when we arrived & checked in some birds to sell, he was complaining that the USDA kept putting more rules and restriction on the operation, and he also said that he lost money on the last auction after paying his help. It's a sad day for those of us that enjoy going to auctions

The prices tonight were very low again, and we brought home 5 of the chickens we had intended to sell there because the bid was too low. Gerald was happy to buy a container full of tools though, so in his mind ... it was a great auction. Well, except for us buying a nice cage that disappeared before we were able to take it home. Robby was nice enough to give us one of his rusty old cages because of it, but I was still disappointed.

Gerald said he just might have to go to the Maud auction this coming Thursday. We'll see when the time comes around, since he will have to take off work for it. It looks like we need to come up with an alternative auction, since the Harrah auction has shut down. Luckily, there's the Newcastle auction beginning in August. Going to auctions is somewhat addictive to us

I hear that the Blue Auction (Durant) is this coming Tuesday ???

nnbreeder, Sorry the truck didn't cooperate for you today, but I hope to see you & your boss at the next Maud auction!

Going to auctions is very addictive! Im sorry that Newalla is closing down. But im not surprised that it didnt make it. They just werent putting in any effort into selling ppls birds and when you do that.. ppl stop bringing their birds.

I had stopped bringing anything to sell after the first couple of times but was still going to buy once in awhile. But the last couple times i went there wasnt much *to* buy so apparently i wasnt the only one that didnt feel like their birds were getting a fair shot.

YOu can never predict prices at an auction.. you get what you get. I hate po'ing anything. But when they dont even announce what it is you cant expect to get the best price possible sigh.

Hopefully the newcastle one will do better. I like Prague but the best stuff goes on friday during the day and i never seem to make it on fridays. Plus i hate having to make cages for it and adding that into the price i need for my birds.
