I hope everyone is as prepared as possible for the icestorm. I know it may turn out to be exagerated but after 2 Januarys ago, i dont like to take chances. I was out of power for 12 days and was cooking frozen lasagna's on a wood stove

Lots of batteries, bottled water, and fill your tubs up with water so you can at least flush the toilet and water the animals a little. If using candles please be safe, it only takes one falling over to lose everything. Anyone else got any tips for dealing with power outages and below freezing temps?

its cold here in my part just finished hanging extra heat lamps in the buildings an extra plastic on the outsides.i burned candles in my gqf last year for 5 days to try an save 500 bob white eggs an still hatched 347.so it worked:D

Been trying to make up my mind with the weather. It could end up being nothing in my part of the state, or it could be horrible, like December 07. Good luck to everyone!

Grace, I may know someone you can contact if you decide to look for a mate for that Sultan. I bought my Polish and Crevecour from them, and I believe he told me he had some Sultan hens when I saw him at the Tuttle show. They live closer to your area than mine I think. Just thought of that and decided I should tell you before I forgot.

Yeah I got everything in the house ready to go, Propane lanterns, old fashioned oil lamps are great for lighting, camp stove w/plenty of fuel, water jugs filled, extra bagged ice in the freezers, propane heaters. I think we are as ready as can be, I got the cards and board games ready, should be fun.

Al, thanks for helping me recheck my list! I got everything but non-electric entertainment!

I am so thankful that I do not have any eggs in the bator right now, with the possibility of power failure. I was wondering, is there any way to use a propane stove, or some other non-electric source of heat, to help with incubating eggs in a power failure?

Dandelion, I agree with you on that one. We at least will have hot water, and all the propane powered stuff. But a generator would be so much better.

Alright who was it that had Seramas? I've decided I want to hatch some in late March or early April, my birthday present to myself.

Hi All....I need your expert knowledge.

Currently, all foul are together to make winter management
easier for us. I have some Silkies and some Black Rose Comb Bantams I would like to have some babies from this year. My question: How long would these have to be in separate quarters
for the eggs to be pure?

They all appear to stay within their own breed, but who knows what goes on when I'm not watching.

THANKS!
