Actually, there is a little known law that says if you keep an address in Oklahoma for more than 6 months, you are required by statute to hate anything in and / or coming from Texas with the possible exception of I-35.

Oh, and Roy !

I mean .. it's the law. What are ya gonna do?

Morning fine peoples!

The wind chill is -13 and the dog water in the heated bowl is frozen solid. The water in the drinking tray of the metal 5 gallon chicken waterer outside with the silicone heater underneath is frozen, but when I pick up the waterer the water inside is thawed. The 2 gallon waterer inside the coop is thawed - it also has a silicone heater under it.

My little brown leghorn seemed a little depressed - she came out to peck around then settled down in the straw next to the pop door. I spent some time shaking a few more leaves of wheat straw in the run. Chickens are funny. They freak out whenever I am carrying something new - like a chunk of straw. But they come running when they see me approach with a white styro "to go" box from a restaurant. When they saw me with the scary straw they all ran back into the coop. They're still in there where it's a little warmer.

-3 here...-3 people that is way freaking cold! I have no water to the house cuz it froze...hard...ice...coming into the house...not water...ICE!!!

Anyone wanna come fix it? I get to go home at noon to fix it...I have to go get stuff for the concession stand and get back before the games start but we have all the important stuff covered! Nah...I have old kids doing researchi n the afternoon and well...we have had a few issues around here so we are doing damage control!

I am not a sports freak...just my Aggies! My oldest will watch any sport anytime! I do not get NASCAR either! Had buddies that thought I should have me redneck card withdrawn...asked them if they wanted to go catch a gator with a rope...they gave it back. We were gonna dine on coon.

Guinea eggs are quite good, but they have less white in proportion to the yolk of chicken eggs. I've not used them in baking, but friends have and say they are excellent--better thank chicken eggs. I know there are charts comparing nutritional value, but I don't know exactly where to find them.

The best baking eggs are duck eggs. Makes your cakes and things rise big time.

Wow! ya'll have been married 30 years! Congratulations! You must have been 15? 16?

OK I think I'm over it... think I just needed a good cry...haven't had one for awhile and things build up with me. Maribeth, I was a week past my 17th birthday... my mom had to sign me away!! HA!
Its only 28 years now...but was I attached to that bowl. Came in a set of 3 and it was the only one that had survived all the fights and moves and drama of all those years. And it exploded when it hit the floor...nothing I could fix. I have seen the darn things is antique stores out here...upwards of 50.00 for the set. How to tell when you are old...your things are considered antiques and your music is "oldies".... boy I sure wish I had it back. Only bad thing was they had ears so they didn't have lids to store stuff. But I have mixed cakes and cookies galore....and it was my salad bowl of choice. Oh well life marches on.....

texas lost...I like the QB...and since I live in "TEXOMA" figures I should root for them... truth is once OU is out and Notre Dame is over I could care less.

It's -4 right now with wind. Hens are still locked up tight. I ain't going out there till later.... they are nagging away...hmph....

Henny - it is like -15 here with the wind....can I come visit? Stupid cold and no water and gotta be a plumber... I understand about the bowl. Mother-in-law gave us her bowl which i will bet was the same bowl...it was the lagest of the set and the only one she had left...anyways...it was cracked when we got it...was a great mixing bowl, perfect for popcorn and salads for the family...too big for the dish washer...had washed passed to the dryer person...slipped...hit ground...exploded...wife cried...I higged and patted...tried to not let her see the...it was a dish get over it expression that I knew was ot the correct reaction but heck I am a guy and that is how I see it! so...in closing...I give you this

.........LOL

Hope you guys are managing in this weather.
We're doing OK around here, but it's sure a
pain in the rear. Thankfully, they have cancelled
the 4-H Poultry Show here for Saturday morning.
Wouldn't that be a hoot.....work yourself to
death protecting your birds....and then freeze
them to death trying to get them to a show????
LOL Spring is sure gonna look good this year !!!

Did get some more information about the jars that
will be at the Blanchard Auction from P&B, and
they won't work for me. Teach, will get back
with you before POOPS and we'll do some trading
on the ones that you have.

Monty, Bill got a hoot at your "Poultry Sale until
the water thaws" post. But, has about decided
to call one around here himself....

Stay warm everybody !!!!!!!!!

Ok here is a tip that I have not yet tried but they do it in the UK. Add a few drops of Glycerin to the water for the birds. It will lower the temps at which it freezes.

The Glycerin can be found in the baking isle at the store and is added to frosting to keep it soft and pliable.

Roy do not add the nitro type, very unstable and bad for the birds.

Glad you added that...cuz I know this guy! Will the patch work? Got a buddy with a heart condition..no wait..not the same huh...

How about adding some hooch? Alcohol has a lower freezing point! Drunk chickens would be a hoot!
