Carah--can you take an oatmeal bath or shower? Coooooool water too--warm makes rashes worse because it opens up your pores...mainly you want to get whatever is offending your skin to be washed off...also try aloe gel--soothing and cooling--good luck!

thanks! I took a cold shower & that was when I figured out I was breaking out with hives, I have no idea what is causing it but benedryal has given me some relief but I am still itchy. I have never done this before & I haven't changed anything (shampoo, soap ect) or ate anything new today or yesterday.

If I remember right there is someone really close with bantam NNs. Lets see who is it?................................

Well us of course but they are rose combed and I even have one girl that lays olive drab eggs. Think she is military?

Good evening all,
Sorry I've not posted lately...have been a lurker though

I've been busy working down here at Lexington...since I'm just staying at the armory and not going home until the weekend...I've been pulling some crazy long hours.

Looking over GracefulBantam's auction list, I see there is an auction in Blanchard this weekend. Is anybody going? DW would like to go, she wants to get some more pharaoh quail around the 8 week old range. (hint-hint..if someone has any they're taking or PM me if you'd like to sell out-right and if you're within a 3 hour drive we'll gladly pick them up

)

This will be last weekend I'll get to go to an auction for awhile, I didn't want Doc to go alone so I'm following him there in the short time. Hey, what's a BYC family for anyway if can't go across the big pond

? Maybe we can start a poultry auction over there...or atleast find some nn bantams for peaches....

Al, I hope you're starting to feel better and that everything goes well with your DD's test results.

Sorry to hear about everyone whose losing birds...hopefully you'll be able to find the cause and correct the problem.

As for big snakes in run...I haven't had anythere...yet, but the ones who are brave enough to come with in 15' of the house gets a visit with the snake charmer...aka 20ga

Not a clue, but I will pull your post forward so that someone more knowlegable than myself can perhaps answer. How many ducks do you have? Any chance they could have all been in the stock tank at the same time and one gotten pushed under by the mass of other ducks? I know - sort of a stretch for a theory.

Edited to add: The only ducks I have had die suddenly, were young ducks that were accidentally fed medicated chick starter or medicated flock raiser. The medicated feed can kill the young ones quickly.

Depending on the breed, the color may be different for young hens and toms. For instance, the Narragansett toms are a little darker in color than the hens, but I have to see several at the same time to be able to identify the color difference. Hens have a very small snood, so the question is going to be how large it gets. If it gets as large around as a thimble, I would say it is a tom. The snood on my hens tends to stay much smaller.

Shavon, How old was the duck and if it was a little one, was it hatched in an incubator or under a hen?

Thanks Maribeth. There were 17 ducks total. Now there are 16. There usually aren't more than 5-6 in the tank at a time. It wasn't a baby. He already had all of his adult plumage. All of my ducks have been fed medicated chick starter, but it is safe for ducks. (I checked.)

The poults are Narragansett. They are some I bought at POOPS. They appear to be the same color.
