Good morning all. I just got back from taking Lauren to school. We woke up about 10 minutes before the bus was scheduled to be here. Lauren needed a bath this morning. She passed out while I was running one for her last night. School pictures are today and all I could find were tank tops and long sleeve shirts, so she is wearing a jeweled tank top for pictures. I hope she doesn't get too cool today. We haven't got any rain yet, but the is lots of cloud cover and it is windy. It is currently about 65 degrees here. I am now headed out the door to go to Weatherford. I have to pick up some more mice. The cats are enjoying the mice more than the snake. Everytime I buy them, the cats knock the cage over and have a feast. I have decided to just buy a couple this time and make a trip every other week. Hope everyone has a great day and enjoys the cooler weather.

What is this stucco reinforcement? We had our 1st black snake/poultry encounter about 3 wks ago. Unfortunately it got away, but I'm sure we'll have others.

Overcast and blessedly cool here. No rain yet and I should be getting some yard work done.

I can't wait for the rain to get here!!! It may delay them starting on my house but I sure want the rain!

Beth is it raining at your place yet??

Monty what do you have that needs to be done while it's raining??

Betsy, glad you had a good trip!! I love family get togethers!!

Starting to pull in the crowers from our meat bird cross experiments until I can arrange a processing date with my instructor/helper. Funny for the day...some of them are Buff Brahma roo over BR hen. Sunday my DH pointed to some of the all black ones and said "I don't know about most of the other's, but I'm sure those black ones are roosters."

The stucco reinforcement is an expanded, galvanized thin sheet metal. It is all one piece, but has tiny diamond-shaped openings (caused by the stretching), and is VERY sharp. I think it is also called metal lath. One of our guinea fowl group also uses this. I have it installed around all the lower 2' of all my outside pens, and it covers most of the doors. It is 28" wide x 8' long. I generally bury the bottom 4". It's pretty easy to cut and handle (with gloves), and definitely helps. Of course, they can climb and can go above it. It has cut down my snake losses drastically, and I'm sure other predators as well. The guinea friend says the morning after he installed his, he found considerable blood on the outside, presumably from a marauding, but unsuccessful weasel. I've had NO successful raccon attacks since installing it.

Al,
next year when you are culling I need a rooster to put with my "PET" white Cornish Bantam that Michael blessed me with last summer.

I get mine at Home Depot. I feel sure Lowes would also carry it. If one could afford to cover the entire pen with it, and made all the joints and door openings tight, I'm sure NOTHING could get in.

TY. Cost is definitely going to be a factor as I'll be needing to rehab the whole building as well. For the run though I had planned on just prefab kennel panels with hardware cloth around the bottom. This was our first snake in 3 yrs here, but it really threw me. I can't help it, they freak me out. Now I'm nervous every time I go out constantly looking for it.
