Merry almost-Christmas everybody! I am loving this weather. We finished our new double-run coop and got the chickens sorted out better. We have baby rabbits and our eggs are due to pip tomorrow. I got to grill buffalo steaks on the back patio tonight which were wonderful AND we got a new foster placement who is very sweet and cute and keeping my daughter occupied! I made it to the courthouse today and applied for our farm tax number and got my invoice turned in so I can get paid next month. It has been a good day!

FreezeFamilyFarm - you got quite a bit accomplished today! Looks like I need to aspire to your level of activity instead of wishing I could take a nap. It was really nice outside today - made it hard to go back to the office after lunch

coming home with 3 special needs silkies- can't wait to see her and the fluffies!

this has been a no-go for Christmasing- very simple....land taxes due, car tags due, speaking of car, drove home friday and dave(coop101) went to turn it around and asked me why didn't i mention the power steering going out.... huh??? so apparently the tensioner for powersteering shattered- in the driveway!! now what is the chances of a car breaking down in the driveway.... ??? so borrowing FIL truck to get the silkies- Betsy is making our Christmas this year!!

We need to fix a pen and feed them in it, so that we will be able to capture them when it comes time to shear them next Spring. Right now, they are wilder than a March hare. Until I have a chance to supervise when we introduce them to the llamas, they are just running around in a large fenced back yard. Once the new cria is a little older and her mama isn't trying to chase the cats when they come close, I will introduce her to the sheep. Jaxon said we can sell his goat - the one named "Lucky" because he was lucky and going to live with us forever - so we may just keep llamas and the Shetland Sheep for awhile. We have 3 contiguous acres and a separate one acre lot. The OKC restrictions limit us to one large animal per 1/2 acre (like a horse or cow) and 2 small animals per 1/2 acre. Goats and sheep qualify as small animals, but I am not sure where llamas fit into the number equation. I had heard previously that sheep will challenge any fence, but the lady I got these from indicated they stayed in her yard, even when her fence was knocked down. Of course, she also had a LGD watching them and that may have affected their willingness to stay on the property. That poor LGD was not a happy camper when I carried her sheep out to the van. Her flock was leaving. She seemed like such a nice dog and is available for adoption. I wanted to bring her home too. The only thing that stopped me (other than no desire for the "have you lost your mind look" from my hubby) was that the dog is still a little immature and chases the guineas. She doesn't hurt them, but since I have ducks and guineas free ranging in that area, I didn't want to take the chance of a dog that is great with goats and sheep, but likes to "play" with poultry.

Good evening all!!!

It was so nice today that we thought we would dip the birds. We have been fighting feather mites. Dipping them today should finish them off. Anyhow, we sprayed the yard and sprinkles sevens dust, sprayed the pens, dipped the birds, moved the pens, then ivomectin the birds and clipped toenails. Very productive, only problem. we started at 3 this afternoon. I now have most of the birds dry and going back outside. We had to bring them in when temp started dropping. Didnt even notice what time it was when we started or we would have waited. thats ok. I put them in cages in the incubator room( it stays really warm in there. Then turned on 3 heat lamps and pointed them at the birds. We are still checking to see what is dry and taking birds outside. Bright side, at least its done.
