Okies in the BYC The Original

I've overworked myself on the coop I'm building and am resting some today, but have it near completion. My sore knees won't allow me to shingle the roof today, but I'll finish everything else. No one desparately needs this coop, so am trying to get ahead of the game a bit. Won't be long before it is badly needed; some are growing fast! Haven't built the pen around it yet, but it should be EASY compared to the coop. Would have it finished sooner if I didn't have to make so many "do overs" because of mistakes. Am planning to build a 15' x 8' pen next, divided into three with separate coops. Another big job. If I hadn't placed my original coops/pens in the lowest spot in the yard and farthest from water and electricity, wouldn't have to build these. A huge oak tree that shades the originals is dying and will eventually flatten the complex when its branches fall, so I'm trying to think ahead for a change.

Have any further plans been made for a Tulsa area get together?

Stimpy : No they were not in cages, but they are to big to fly to a roost that I even lowered. So they lay on straw hay most of the day, This weekend I plan on moving them to the really big coop & run in hopes they will stay a little cleaner and start to roost more. Maybe that will get them to moving around more .

Sounds like everyone is busy today,or wishing they were home to be busy! Its nice here too. I got out and did the fedding and watering chores. Making mental notes on who was getting culled for the auction this weekend. Being on disability the budget says I'm buying way to much feed so I have to cut back. But there are so many that I would love to keep and hatch from next year!

Oh well.
Turned the EE bantams loose and let them forage around for a bit, hopefully they are to big to be hawk food. They sure were enjoying it. They found an empty coop with dry litter in it and started dusting so I mixed some seven dust with the litter. Might as make the dust bath count!

Had a d'anver hen get the gooy eye thing, lots of matter in it and face all swelled up. Didn't have any meds so last night I tried a home remendey I had heard about. Take an old tea bag and squeeze it out over the eyes. From her looks I figured I had nothing to loose, expected to see her dead this morning. It worked, she is a whole lot better. Eyes are clearing up,swelling going down, more alert. So I gave her another treatment.

Wow, I think I was forgetting how fun the local poultry auction is! You were right, Sherri, I should go more often

The most interesting birds I saw were a gorgeous Buff Sizzle (Frizzled Silkie) hen, a few pairs of Wood Ducks, a Blue and a Black Rosecomb rooster, BLR Wyandottes, two Mille Fleur OEGB pairs, and several nice looking Modern Game Bantams.... oh and Spangled Large OEG!

Too bad I only sold, and didn't buy a thing

Hey, I saw those!
Sorry we missed eachother. We got these before 5:30, dropped off the birds I was selling, look around a few times, talked to some people, watched a few truckloads of stuff sell, then had to get back home

), you bought the Sebrights too? I did see them, and talked to the guy who either owned them or was friends to the guy who owned them (I didn't catch that part)... his last name was Esteps and I've been out to his place before to get some poultry wire. Anyway I heard some people saying they were those same birds
