You get to know people when you do that sort of research. You sit and stare at the names on the census, their ages, place of birth. Think about what they are like. Captain Fancher's twin daughters had just been born, apparently on the road out. I thought about how hard that must have been.

i also am a genealogy hound- been doing it for years, and you really do get to know those folks- was that the Mormon battalion that was out of control? have read some about them...

my family on one side is scottish, irish, the other side german and danish- talk about challenging research!​

That is a great idea! I don't get the sale ads though

I already do have the black rubber feed pans for water...I am just not looking forward to getting the hose out twice a day to run all the way up to the barn to fill waterers...UGH! That is the part about winter that I dislike the most...hauling the hose and rolling it up again so it won't freeze...

Well, I currently have some Barred Rocks, several OEG's, some rhodies, 39 ? eggs in the 'bator (hopefully I'll get some pure Buff Orps, the guy I bought them from had a whole bunch of differant chickens, but all his roo's were buff orps except one lol) a cochin cockeral and a couple guinneas. Oh yeah, and a few white silkies lol.

I'd like to get some Orps, especially the blue ones, some Easter Egger's, and some Vulturine guinneas. Would also like to try turkeys and pigeons just for the heck of it lol.

I can personaly recommend getting your Turkey eggs and Guinea eggs from Okcarla and her husband. Speaking of wich does anyone know how the guy is doing? Last I heard she had him back at the ER or something.

Glad to see im not the only one with a bator fired up. Im gonna have more chicks during the winter than I had all summer.

Me too. Tornadoes it is mostly psychological.

I was on a bus tour of Mountain Meadows sites (I'm a descendant) in Arkansas and talking to a guy who lives in the SF Bay area about it. I told him I would take tornado alley any day. See, even if it is a really big and powerful tornado, it is going to cut a swath of, what, a quarter mile at most? So, the chances of that tornado hitting my house in an area of this size is extremely slim, not to mention I can see it coming for miles usually. Plus for extra insurance, I have a tornado shelter.

A 6.5 earthquake hits and everyone gets it, there is no warning, and no such thing as an earthquake shelter.

The May 3, 1999 tornado that hit Moore was a mile wide, but it was the exception. Fortunately, we don't get storms like that very often...

Hello everyone

Gerald is still in the hospital, waiting for the results to determine whether or not he has viral or bacterial meningitis. Apparently the culture takes 48 hours & not just a day like the ER dr said. Oh, and his dr that came to see him yesterday said that since he's been on antibiotics for over a week because his original dr thought he had a sinus infection ... they may not be able to know what kind of meningitis he has. So, hopefully they let him go home tomorrow anyway. Since they are treating him like it's contagious ... which it could be, he isn't allowed out of this hospital room. He definitely wants out of here.

I sure need Gerald at home to help with all the critters too. The dogs & cats miss him & then all the birds are surely missing out on some quality time too.

When I was out feeding the birds today, I walked by one of my cats that looked like he was sleeping in the grass ... but he didn't move. Poor Redhawk was only 2 years old, no signs of trama or anything. The only thing I can think of is if he got into some poison ... or possibly poisoned by someone. We don't keep any poison around whatsoever.

Where at? How much you getting.I'm jealous,it was sunny and 76 here today! Hey I got a nice pair of English Trumpters,solid red male and solid yellow hen. Also got two Pheasant pigeons,no any who raises them ,I need two hens!lol And my new Brunner pouters have eggs!
