My mother is lactose intolerant and so is my son, so I have had years of searching labels for "whey" and anything that sounds like lactose. My mother loves soy ice cream and when our son was little and was offered ice cream, he would ask them if they had any Cool Whip instead. Cool Whip was his ice cream. Peanut butter is a good source of protein and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is very portable. Our son is also allergic to peanuts however, so I just made him "skinny venison" to take for his school lunch. Slice the meat thinly across the grain (you slice it with the grain for jerky) and brown it on both sides in a non-stick skillet with some garlic salt. It is tasty and no fat. You will need to check the garlic salt to be sure there is no MSG in that brand. He also ate a lot of tuna fish and rice.
For some reason, mozzarella cheese doesn't bother my son, but my mom can't even eat that. Once you get to a point where you have eliminated everything that bothers your stomach, you can try adding back a few things.

I bet Muesky (Rebecca) can give you some great suggestions on how to cook Tofu.

I have an an Associates in Applied Science. My plan is to enter the nursing program in the fall, but first I have to be accepted

In order to be accepted they look at you ACT scores, your GPA and what classes you have completed already. They give you points on each part. My ACT was really sad the first time so I will be taking a residual ACT to try and improve my score which will hopefully improve my chances of getting into the program. My previous GPA I can do nothing about, BUT I have taken all of the prerequisites so all I have left is nursing classes. Which is good.
Country aren't you doing the nursing program?

Do you think you may have to have surgery? I'm sure you need relief from pain. Thoughts and prayers headed your way.

I put a thick coating of vaseline on my OEGBs combs (not dubbed)--the only ones that are in peril. I know of people who use bag balm. They fuss at first when I catch them, but seem to really like their combs and wattles rubbed. You should be OK--I don't think they are really in danger until the temps drop quite a bit lower and for a longer time.

What kind of tofu? Soft, firm, extra firm? I use quite a bit of tofu, including TVP (texturized vegetable protein) because real beef is expensive and I can't afford it AND chicken feed... and I have GOT to have my chickens

Not that this is a solution to your problems and still I think you should do LOTS and LOTS of research, but a good website that I like to use to find recipes is www.allrecipes.com there are so many different ways you can prepare tofu. I have had tofu made in many different ways that I would have sworn up and down that it was really ham, eggs, and even cheese (I also love cheese), but I was at a Buddhist temple and they are pure vegetarians and I knew it was tofu. Tofu is incredible if prepared right you can make it taste like just about anything.

I too have a lot of digestion problems and have to be very careful. Especially after having found the polyps in my colon and the type they were, I was very scared after finding out the kind and before the tested to find out that they were benign. Even after my procedure I was getting really sick and could hardly eat anything, because I would get sooo sick afterwards. I then had to also go through a cat scan and an endoscopy to figure out why I was getting so sick. The final conclusion, I was having severe ulcers and they tested them to make sure they were not bacterium ulcers. I was lucky they were not, but had to try and relax and just eat healthy and lite. It took a long time for them to get better were I was not getting sick every time I ate something, but I did get better. I still have some problems and I do notice that certain foods do bother me. One of the foods that I really seem to notice that after eating makes me not feel so good is bread or anything with flour or wheat germ (also anything fried or greasy). So I try to limit eating any bread, flour noodles, and such. If you go to an Asian market they have rice nooodles and they are really good and don't bother my stomach. Well, I hope that maybe some of this may help you!

Morning Okes

How's life? Chilly here....

Can ya eat chicken? Or turkey?

I cannot believe Thanksgiving is next week....jeez...where did time go? My crazy hubby...he is listening to Christmas music on Sirius already....he left the house last night boogeying to some 40's Christmas tune that was kinda jazzy....what a nut. I was a scrooge this year cause we have no money.....last year too.....this year I said the heck with it...I got Mikey...My mom is hanging in there and safer now, so I am trying to be more upbeat. Remember why exactly we have Christmas,....I was thinking about Christmases my grandma would talk about during the war and the depression. Sure wasn't this entitlement society, but they were tough as nails and had good hearts.....

Have hens done and ma go rest up some...tonight is Thanksgiving at my Mom's place, then we are bringing her back here for Thanksgiving....Mike's Thanksgiving dinner at his work is tomorrow...

I was just gonna dump my praline yams and run...but one of his friends is making Dirt Cake specially for us, so I'm going. Mike's nasty boss looks at me sideways I'm taking him out.

We will drive down Friday after school. I don't know why they don't let school out all week. Jared is out three days but the two days he is there they won't be doing much school work. Just having parties and doing Thanksgiving stuff.

In SE Oklahoma, many schools ARE out all week because there are so many kids deer hunting.

Just as God intended!

Just an idle question so I can file the answer away for later when I really need it... does anyone on the list raise non-hatchery RIR? I'd prefer not to have eggs shipped in and my incubating skillz need serious work.
