They are Omnivores but are happy eating the white grubs just below the surface in your lawn or the june bugs under a light. Through the years I have never lost a bird to a skunk. Eggs have been fair game though.

The scent glands must be removed in the very early stages of life. In older animals they get too much callous material built up around them. I have known people through the years with skunks that were not de-scented and kept as pets.

A skunk can only fire off his scent about once every month, if you smell skunk on two nights in a row then you have at least 2 skunks. They are fascinating little critters.

My dad had a skunk as a child... it was his favorite pet growing up. He found two babies after the mother was hit by a car. They were de-scented, then he kept one and a friend of his kept one.

Hmm. I talk about my MFCs a lot. I also got to thinking... as much as I love the little silkies, and sweet talk them and such... I love my MFCs just as much. The only reason I didn't get to cuddle them as chicks is because they were all at least 2-3 months old before I got them.

Such sweet fluffy babies...

No wonder I'm ordering brahmas... they fit into the fluffy feathery fascination I've got going on! I really *am* just another foo foo chicken lover.

fortunately, I take enough allergy meds on a daily basis that I didn't notice any added problems today. Of course, I was in the office all day except for a quick trip to the feed store at lunch, so didn't have much exposure to fresh air. On a happy note, if there is major pollen available, the bees will put it away in the hive.

Gotta pick up meat chickens from Okmulgee and bring them back to be slaughtered. If I could be in two places at once, I would.

Thanks!, We were wondering considering out of all the POOP chicks we ended up with only 2 out of the 7 we got were roo's of their breed... so now that makes 5 hens of their bunch although we lost a hen a month or so ago....

Jeannie

so PB & J oops I mean P&B Be more than happy to take the NN roo for your friend if its not adopted out prior to maybe tomorrow... Jason and I want to try and hit up Blanchard to return your cage and what not...

just need directions to the place ...lol

I will bring the NN rooster to you tomorrow at Blanchard - if my friend gets them to me as she indicated she would. I will call her in the morning to let her know that she won't have to worry about her babies becoming dinner anytime soon - homes have been found.

Gerald and I just got back from the Blanchard auction where we dropped off some of our young silkies, silver sebrights, a couple of Narragansett tom turkeys and a few other miscellaneous birds ... oh, and 4 showgirl silkies that I hatched from eggs from a nice lady in California that goes by the username onthespot. Anyway, while we were there, I almost decided to take some of the birds back home with me, after looking at them. How are we ever going to downsize when I can't hardly stand letting them go?

We looked at the other birds there for just a few minutes, but neither Gerald or I could remember many of the varieties we saw. There are guineas, a nice looking pair of porcellain d'uccle, some partridge rocks, quite a few young bunnies, and other miscellaneous birds.

I look forward to seeing lots of BYC Okies on Saturday night. Oh, and those of you that are going to the Blanchard auction, the Blanchard police were sure giving out a lot of speeding tickets tonight. We saw several cars pulled over on our way there, and several different cars pulled over when we left. Hopefully the police will have already filled their ticket quota before tomorrow evening. It sure is hard to drive 35 mph thru Blanchard

It's a deal.

Wait, you don't drink those foo-foo coffees, do you?

-Stimp-

PS, I've been keeping up with your meat bird ordeal. If I didn't live in exactly the opposite direction, I'd have fallen in and lent a hand.

Sorry.
