Be sure to pop in an visit when you don't have an auction upcoming.

As for the sick chickens, it isn't right what the man is doing but I don't know that a warning will do much good. Unless you will be sitting watching for his posts everytime he lists. There are alot of folks that aren't honest about what they have or sell unhealthy birds. I hope your others make it. Are you treating them with meds???

I'm not really sure what is wrong. When I posted a picture some people said they didn't look right. Puffed up and I did notice a little nasal discharge and they don't seem very perky. I'm giving them antibotic now. I was told in a couple of days to switch to the vitamins then to wormer.

we bought some sick ones last fall and the only thing that seemed to help was (Tylan 50) 1cc to the breast once a day for 3 days we saved most of ours with this
you can pick it up at most Atwoods stores.

I don't agree with the changing them from the anitbiotics to vit. then wormer. The anitibiotics usually are to be used for 7-10 days. Once they were over being sick & were well I woud then worm them.

Hey all....hope everyone is keeping safe. I just love the way everyone checks on each other....nothing like our extended family. I haven't been on much lately. This is a very hard time of the school year for teachers. You have files, reports, grades to take care of...then oh yeah...there are kids to still tend to...LOL

We had a funny thing happen this morning. My sister lives just up the road from me and when the storm came rolling in her husband called her from work and told her she better get to the cellar. Now she absolutely HATES going in there...it's at our parents house across the field..so she came to my house first because she couldn't get us to answer the phone. She said she beat as hard as she could and screamed our names over and over and I didn't even hear her. Our bedroom phone has gone out and since mom passed away I don't worry about hearing the phone at night anymore so I've never replaced the phone. I didn't hear her because we run a fan year round for me to survive my DH's snoring.

Anyway, she was so scared she went to the cellar by herself...that is a miracle in itself...and she just kept calling me. I felt so bad...she thought I was going to get blown away. Well, for those of you that don't think a double wide in this day and time is safe well I beg to differ. I never heard or felt anything in the 90 mile wind and an f2 tornado.

A co-worker of my brother-in-law was about 3 minutes behind him on their way to work this morning. When this man got to their work he was kind of in shock. The "storm" had taken out 3 of his windows in his SUV as he was driving. He was covered in glass...semi's were turned over, metal was wrapped around things. They've now determined it was an F2 tornado that he was driving through. Amazing how God takes care of us when we don't know what is around us.

Anyway, watch out for the storms and have a great evening.

I found the worst thing possible in my coop this morning...
apparently Snapp, my broody hen, still had a couple eggs that she'd rolled out of the nest and hidden in the corner. I didn't really notice because she'd be up when ever I opened the door to the coop.
When I noticed the eggs, the only thing I acctually noticed was a little yellow spot in the corner, and the I noticed a little half grown chick out of the safety of it's shell, which was next to it. I put the last egg in the coop, and buried the dead chick. I wish I'd notice things more often than I do.
Anyways, I candled my eggs yesterday, two or three quitters but other than that we seem to be doing good.

The original four eggs, by looking at the chick found in the coop, is little more than 14 days...

Well, I gotta get off, schools almost out.

So glad you are safe and that your sister is safe.

I think that I would be in shock also if the windows of my vehicle were sucked out as I was driving. In fact, I would probably be laughing and crying at the same time from hysteria! Glad that guy wasn't injured.

Tylan 50 and LA 200 are both good antibiotics. Get the birds well first and then proceed with wormer and vitamins.

If they are still sick they won't take the wormer very well and it will knock them back down and then the vitamins would be a waste.

If you are using water soluable antibiotics, don't feed them for at least the first 5 days.

Using injectible antibiotics, normally use 1 cc under the skin in the breast area every day for 3 days and cut their feed in half of normal.

I haven't read through everything but what meds are you giving the birds? there is a wonderful antibiotic called LS-50 that should fix them up in just a day or two. Some feed stores carry it but most of the time it has to be ordered online. I will post where I get it in a few minutes. ( I type really slow)
