Okies in the BYC The Original

Good evening Okies...

Still having odd issues with drunken-acting chickens...Still have no idea why...we have another pullet acting weird and staggering but she is bright eyed and eating like a hog. I just can't figure this out...I am so frustrated!

It has been so quiet on here lately...everyone must be busy working outdoors--just like we will be this weekend! Time to build a turkey pen! Our four poults are getting HUGE! It seems impossible that something that was once so small is so big now! Amazing to watch them grow!

Well I have work and physical therapy tomorrow and I am up waaaaay past my bedtime--so it is time to his the hay!

G'nite okies! Be good humans!

Believe it or not, I'm at work. My computer here won't let me see Buster's pics....but the buckeyes were born around April first...they are shooting right up there in size though. The hens from the same hatch are just a little bit smaller than the roos...

Plywood gets painted, hardwood gets stained and sealed. I mean why pay a premium price for hardwood just to cover it up?

The cabinets weren't that expensive. They are prefabs from Lowe's.

Evening BYC Folks!

Not to rub it in but I am glad my work week is over. You would not think working 12 a week would be nearly as tiring at a 40+ hour week but for some reason, teaching this class this summer is kicking my backside. Of course the three hours of working in the yard everyday is probably not helping. Still not even a dent in what needs to be done to the place.

Ok so of the chicks I purchased from Whelps hatchery lost one today and may have another working that way. Still all in all they seem to be a much healthier lot of chicks then I have ever gotten from any other hatchery.

Hope it stays that way.

I was kinda hoping to stay up a bit tonight and chat but my face keeps cracking with yawns and that pillow calling is getting louder and louder. If I go to bed now I can get up early and get some work done around here before I go get some more baby turkeys and chicks tomorrow. I know, I know... more turkeys and chicks, yes I need a 12 step program.

Saturday I am planning on being at Fletcher but not sure if Uli is going to make it. Just depends on if I can get him to go to bed early tomorrow night. He is now officially on a day schedule but his day starts at 2:45 am and as far as I am concerned that is a night shift. At least is a stable schedule and not this day and nights crap he has been working for the last year or so. So is anyone bring peafowl to Fletcher??? You know I am wanting some very badly. I thought Piaget (my peahen) might have gotten ate after the bad rain we had on Monda and. Have not seen her for two days, then this evening as I was cleaning the coop, she came gliding in.

I was so happy cuz I love that peahen.

She is smart, funny and has survived when no others I have, had. Plus I have had her since the day she hatched, so yes I am a bit attached.

Sorry Bfrancis,I got you mixed up with Buster. ---Senior moment!lol.

Bummer you have to be at work, but at least you are able to visit anyway.

Picked a 5 gallon bucket of squash tonight! Wondering why I planted so much!I only like it fresh so I guess I'll send it to work with the wife tomorrow. Corn is starting to tassle. Blackberries are getting red.

Muesky,
Don't know if anyone has told you but there were some young blue india peas at Blanchard last weekend....maybe some will make it Fletcher Saturday

Has this started just since the rain? If so I might suspect Botulism from moldy feed or even cut grass that they might get into. Do they have access to a compost pile? That is often a good source for Botulism too.

The only other thing I can think of is fertilizer in run-off water. That can cause Nitrogen poisoning.

When it all comes down to it however you will be the one in the kitchen. If you want to paint them go for it. It will be brighter and if you go with a gloss enamel it will be easier to clean.

Well they were painted today with a white high gloss enamel. They really look good. If they get wiped down everyday and as needed, they should stay nice. Heck I will now have a dishwasher, so I could use the extra time not spent washing dishes every night, to clean the cabinets.
