Gerald and I made it to the Maud auction on Thursday night, but I was so extremely exhausted. Getting only 4 hours of sleep a night because of the new job sure makes me feel bad. To top it off, Gerald was mad at me for not being in the building when the hatching eggs sold ... and I missed bidding on the eggs we intended to bid on. He should have bid on them without me!

Hey Hangemhorns, I enjoyed meeting you and your family (wife, mother & kids) yesterday. I'm so sorry I didn't spend more time visiting, and I especially intended to give you some pulp egg flats for your incubator. I meant to also see if you were interested in any of those birds I had with me ... but I was having a really bad day. Please forgive me.

nnbreeder, I enjoyed meeting you and your wife. I'm glad you were able to get some things at the auction that you wanted.

There were probably only half the goats & poultry there Thursday as what we've seen the 2 times we've been before. I guess the holiday weekend had something to do with the low turn out.

Hopefully, the Cement auction on Saturday will be good. I definitely need to sell some birds. Gosh, I hope I don't bring home more than I take with me!

OK, just one more thing I saw today that I want to share before I go do something productive today. Here's an ad on craigslist for a free goat. Maybe someone on this forum will want him? Here's most of the ad (I figured I'd better copy it before it's flagged or removed by owner)

Free to a needy yard, one, two year old grumpy, mean and annoying so called minature goat, needs work, It won't eat weeds but will eat your shrubs and flowers,Is anti-social, which means that he does nothing but scream at you every time you go outside. The only time he's friendly is when your feeding him. He bullies his brother around. Really isn't too smart, he gets his head stuck in my fence almost on a daily bais, which has to be cut to remove him.
The reason I'm getting rid of him is because after two years of trying, I realized I'm not a tree hugger and would rather mow my weeds than wait for the stupid goat to eat them.
Now that you know what to expect from him, and your still interested keep in mind that I will not give him to someone just to make tacos out of. I want him to go somewhere to be a companion to a horse, or someone thats willing to put in the time to make him tame & friendly. He is cut so the billy goat thing isn't an issue.
Below are a couple of pic's including his head stuck, and a pic of his replacement

I bought some banty chicks a little while back(a little less than a week ago I think), and now I have to tread lightly with my husband, especially until we get the coop built. So I may not be coming to an auction for a little while at least. LOL He may be the one that goes to the feed store to get feed next time ^_^ I don't even know if you can put banties in with regular sized breeds, but I bought em anyway. They were too freaking cute!! And I had never seen bantams in person before, so I didn't realize how small they were. AND I had my daughter with me, so my fate was sealed. Were both suckers for miniature anything especially animals.

My husband is at Home Depot now getting the remaining boards for the chicken coop. We got a good bit of it from Craigslist, and from my parents who had a bunch of lumber they weren't going to use. I was really hoping to get by without spending much at all on the coop, but I bought chickens before the coop was built and now it's time to get them in their permanent home. It will be 10x16 ft. We were going to make it twenty, but decided that we wanted that extra 4 feet for ourselves

ha ha ha ha ha Carla my husband told me about that ad, and I didn't get a chance to look at it last night. That is a funny funny ad!!

Yes I too had a good time last night and got some very nice birds from Carla. Some of the birds were going high too. Usually NNs are a dime a dozen but last night I ran those three up to over 10 dollars apiece before bowing out. And those three little black hens are Sumatra crosses, hmmm I feel another breeding project coming on. LOL

Quote:
I asked before, now I'm askin' again.....what are NNs?

NNs are an abreviation for naked neck chickens ... aka Transylvania naked neck aka Turken

Ahhhh....thank you. In the horse business the term N/N (vs N/H) can bring out the beast in people. HYPP is a gene mutation whereas the N/N horse doesn't carry a copy of the gene, while the N/H horse has one copy and the H/H horse is homozygous for the gene. Many people breed for the N/H horse as they are way more competitive in the show pen, but others hate it. KB

NN's are Naked Necks, also called Turkens. They are named that b/c they literally have a naked neck. No feathers on their necks. If you go to the home page of BYC and look jump on the breeds page, I think they have pics of them there.

We bought some naked neck chicks at our local feed store the day before Easter, because they made us an offer we couldn't refuse ... and because they were all pullet chicks. Gerald really likes them because they're funny looking. Plus, they lay a large brown egg and are extremely hardy chickens ... at least that's what I hear.

Who's going to Cement today? We are! Bringing a few call ducklings, rhode island red chicks, and some rooster juveniles, and some pearl guinea chicks with us ... maybe more things, just haven't started loading them all up yet.
