oklahoma city zoning - busted for my chickens!

SeaChick, thanks SO much. i found out that Del City, Midwest City (two sections of OKC), Norman (our city to the south), and Edmond (our city to the north) all allow chickens, which has GOT to be good for my cause.

i called the inspector's office and bought a week. they wanted the chickens gone by tomorrow or i'd get a fine and they would come take the chix to the pound. the guy was SO nice and told me i could wait until next saturday. he said he was making a note in my file, and he's the guy in charge, so i can use his name if anyone tries to give me a hard time. not a big step, but it makes things a little less stressful!

What is the latest on your fight with the evil horde? I saw another post where a lady in Midwest City won her fight to keep chickens. There is still hope.

When you look around your neighborhood, its amazing how many things you see that aren't allowed, and sometimes it helps to take pictures and document these "code violations".
When I was 13, my parents put up a small picket fence in the front yard. My father made the pickets. A neighbor turned us in because the fence was not allowed within 10 feet of the road in front. However, neither were bushes, trees, shrubs and hedges. Nothing more was ever said.

Sorry for the thread necro here.

I am currently in Alaska, but moving to the OKC area.

What ever happened with this?

I was wanting to keep a pair of hens, and have gone out of my way to look for houses without HOAs so that I can do a whole backyard homestead thing with my back yard.

Found this site, and this thread, was wondering how the battle went.

I got all the way to the end of the thread before I realized it was old.

Now I'm curious too!

I live in Edmond, OK. I heard that chickens were illegal in Edmond...were they legal back in 2007? I know of a few people who live right in the city, in close proximity to neighbors, who have them, so I hope I am misinfomed :)

Well, I live in OKC and as far as I know nothing's changed. We are still not allowed to have chickens if you have less than an acre lot. This is one reason that I've opted to raise quail since they are allowed (or rather, not specifically prohibited) under current ordinances.

However, I am given to understand that the great Chicken Whisperer himself will be coming to OKC sometime in early 2013 to help us fight the fight so let's all cross our wings and hope that it works out.

I've grown quite fond of quail raising in the meantime.
