Now we just need to

that I can get it past 1 week....I seem to have trouble with that milestone. Once they are past 1 week old it seems I can't kill them if I try, but until then they are vulnerable.

Maybe I'll put it in a glass case and hand-feed it? Keep it on my person somewhere? Who knows

Put a little diaper on it and keep it in your bra.

Then if it peeps, you hear it. Actually, I do keep my new babies in a small fish tank with a light
Kind of a glass case.
Got the Delaware run finished except a bit of paint. So I put the rooster in there and the girls can look at him through the window . They henpecked him when I first put him in with them. He is a young guy, but old enough to crow. So once he feels at home in the run, I will let the girls out and they can meet in his territory. Hope that helps.
I put food out today for our new barn cat. He chose us, just showed up one day. He/she went in with the silkies and was after mice. As long as it doesn't mess with my chickens, I am ok with it. But I need to find out if it is male or female, in case it needs to be fixed. I think the neighbors left it there when they moved out. Their cat was often having kittens, so it may be one of those. It will not let me get anywhere near it yet. My house cat hates other cats, so it will have to be happy with living in the barn.
So the latest project is a grow out pen, it is 8x8 and 6 feet high. I have most of the frame up, and a lot of the wire . But of course I need to buy more wood and wire, there is never enough. And I need to build the door. Tomorrow I am off to Lowe's.
I got stung by a hornet yesterday , man that hurts! Today my finger is all swollen like a sausage , even though I took Benadryl right away. Put ice on it too.
So I went on Craigslist , found a guy with a Bator and turners, you can never have enough of those...

I heard you talk about craiglist have you ever been to local sales network. www.localsalesnetwork.com it is a tn sales site. It mostly has middle tn, but I say their will be a few things from you area on their. I have found and sold a bunch on their. I actually like it better than craigslist.

I put my ducklings in the duck enclosure today. They seem to be don'g well. I'm just hoping they all do good during the night. The water in their pond is low enough they can stand in it and there is a ladder/ramp so they can get out. I doubt they will be in it tonight but in the morning most likely. The 2 older ducks aren't bothering them. They aren't much older really but sure look it. They grow so fast.

We went around the bottom of the wire with about a foot tall from the ground up of chicken wire to keep them from getting out. There is a small house they can get in that is inside the shed and it's boxed off so they don't just go into the shed. It has a roof on it that raises up like a door. We had them in there with the door to the run/enclosure blocked off so they had to stay in there a few days till we added the extra wire.

Now all we have are some silkie and bbs orph chicks in the house in a brooder and I have some bob whites hatching. Jap bantams due for lock down in 2 days. Unfortunately I got only 2 good eggs out of those. All the rest where clear.

If i'm lucky, and I usually ain't, i'll get a pair.

In this months issue of Backyard Poultry, there is an article on different ways of sexing chicks. Everybody should pick up an issue.

I hatched out one duck and gave it to my neighbor. Man, that thing grew like crazy! Left the chickens the same age in the dust. I am getting a new Bator with turners tomorrow ! So excited.
Hey, I don't owe any of you guys eggs, do I ? I am pretty caught up according to my notes, took Angie's advice and started a note book. Man it is hard to keep track sometimes.Have at least one to ship tomorrow . Got some shipped eggs hatching right now, I think they are Sussex. One almost out and one pipped!
