online Crazy Egg Chain Chat thread

You two need some guineas....I haven't seen a chigger all year and it's been at least a month since I've seen a tick.

I have JB cortunix and GG bob whites. The JB's just started laying last week and the GG's are almost feathered. Just their heads to get feathers now and grow up. I just have a quad of the JB's and 16 of the bob whites. I do have eggs in the bator and going to put the ones I collected this week in before I go to bed. Which should be soon.

I'll call monday to find out about the permit on the quail. Around here unless somebody complains nobody cares. And nobody will complain as far as neighbors go. I don't know anybody else that may either as far as that goes. My sister n law that is staying next door complains about the noisy guineas but she don't like any animals anyway and she don't live there either. Don't need a permit and there is no noise ordinance out here in the boondocks so she can complain all she wants then she can go home.

We should call this the 'Em and H2P chat thread'

A friend of mine here in KY had to get a gamebird propagator license in order to hatch the eggs from his bobwhites. They are pretty strict on keeping those.

Yeah, I had guineas but the ker-choinking drove me nuts even though they were in the far back pasture! Every time I went there to feed the chickens they were so loud I couldn't hear myself think. I was told I had mostly males, and I just wanted peace and quiet. So I have to put up with bugs. The chickens were doing pretty good eating bugs but with so many predators, I have been keeping them penned up. The lady down the road free ranges her Guineas and they keep getting run over. :-(

I have guinea. They ran away then a pair came back with 2 others that where'nt mine. So I have 4 in pens now. There are 3 still out there somewhere in the woods but they haven't came back as of yet. I hear them in the distance but they're too far away to do any good around here. We didn't even see a tick when they where loose before we lost most of them from the storms in April. We where down to 2 males. We went to the auction and bought 2 females and a male and penned them up. Back when it was soooo hot and their pen was in the sun I let them out to keep them from dying form the heat and 1 make kept fighting with the less dominant male and I tried to break it up and put them back up. They fought all the way down the road till they got to a spot we couldn't get to them. One flew in a tree the other hid under brush and the hen flew in a tree too. That left a pair still in the yard. They disappeared and came back with the 2 white roos. We had 4 pearls and 1 blue. Maybe they got so scared out in the woods they turned white.

So I have been ohhhing and ahhhhing over the eggs up for grabs on the chain thread. I have never played in one before and was wondering if anyone is ever interested in japanese bantams? They are the only pure breds I have that are laying right now and don't want to stall the thread

:weeeWell, anyone that's awake is welcome to join in.

. Yeah, it is pretty wild and wooly in TN. No such thing as animal control, the locals just shoot strays. No building permits, codes whatever. I don't think a few quail will raise eyebrows, supposing they even hatch when the po gets done with them.

. I have an empty trailer on one side, another empty trailer across the street, and two other neighbors who don't seem to mind the critters. There are 30 acres of woods behind our 10, so no one to annoy there. But I would like to get a permit if I need one. I did hatch guineas before, and those Em has are some I sent. So how many days to hatch quail ? I have an empty Bator or two, think I would hatch them in a smaller one to keep a good eye on humidity . How high does a run need to be? I have pens in the barn about 6 feet high, might that work for winter? I need to read up more:weee

oh yes I have pics of them! I will have to go fish out the random rooster thats in the coop with them before I put any up for grabs tho... hes kind of a freak of nature and the banty cage was the only one I could put him in where the hens didnt try to kill him in

Just hatched some of the eggs and I suspect that a couple of them are "the mailmans kids"

Those I got from you are still in a pen outside. They're too young to let go just yet. They're feathered except for their heads. They're so pretty. I'll have to get some pics for you. I bought 6 keets from TSC last friday and there is 1 RN pheasant chick in there that hatched just before the guinea did. They've been brooder mates so it's till with them for now.
