When I was a kid, there were a couple of times my great-grandma caught baby 'possums in her house.
Somehow or other someone convinced the adults to keep them as pets.
I remember ... they were cute in a way as tiny babies, and the way they'd curl their tails onto your finger. It was no time at all before they became vicious little boogers though ... they would hiss and snap at people who hand-raised them, even while still small.
I can't say as I care to have them around, especially now that I have chickens. They can stay in the woods and leave me alone.
(I don't think I'd even want to eat one. We've eaten a lot of different kinds of animals, but I'm glad I never tried 'possum.)
That said though, at the old house I trapped a few rats with live traps, and my co-workers all thought I was nuts because I drove them to a state park and let them go. I just can't look right at them and kill them.
