Oregon Spring Poultry Swap April 23, 2011 in Canby!!!

Hi All,

I live on a large farm in Jefferson, Brawley Farms (just 10 min. off the I-5, Ankeny Hill Exit). After the hay is cut, we have several large fields suitable for parking, etc. I think we could also come up with electricity, we used to have a large horse show here so have big generator, and I think there is electrical outlets in one of the fields. We would have to rent a porta-potty or run up to the barn........... It is even possible that we could do the swap in the indoor arena of the barn. I would have to speak with the owners but I have worked and lived here for over 25 years and am sure I could pull it off. It would have to be on a Sunday so as not to interfere with the horses and the paying clients. The dates would also make a difference, are they set? I would need to be here if this were to happen.

Corvallis is easy for me too! I go to handling classes there as well as attend our monthly club meeting (Chintimini Kennel Club) and its a lovely fairgrounds!

My son did the Brawley Farms show a long time ago! He has since converted to cowboying and ranch roping. Nice place, easy to get to.

Rosanna, that is an awesome offer, thank you! In the past we have looked for this type of situation so yes, if you would, please ask if this would be a possibility! As far as dates, no, nothing set. We usually like to do late September (after the kids are back in school) or early-mid October to beat the bad weather. Knock on wood, we've had great luck with this so far. I guess give us a time frame when this would be possible and I'll keep checking into the other things as well

OMG Zanna! I went to Brawley farms back in 2003 to start brushing up on dressage lessons and at that time, i was a bit heavier but not massive. The trainer/instructor there told me they didn't have a horse big enough for me unless it was the big gray rawboned thoroughbred (about 17 hands and 13-1400 lbs.,) that was being used in the lessons and the trainer/instructor basically dismissed me

. I had been riding much smaller, less substantial horses prior to that. I have avoided Brawley ever since then.

Ok, so other than clearing it with my insurance guy, which I know is not a problem because I've had to contact them regarding something similar in the past, the fairgrounds is a complete go. The person I needed to contact was the OSU Biosecurity person and all he needed to know is when the event was so that it didn't occur at the same time as their testing in a nearby facility. Since it doesn't, he doesn't care what we do either lol. So as of now, we have Timber Linn Park, the Benton County fairgrounds and Zanna's offer if it all checks out with the owners. I think we are in really good shape with all those choices!

Fairgrounds sound great but I'd support Brawley's as well. You guys are awesome in all the legwork you do.

Blessings are, incubator was only off less than 2 hours so hopefull (did the ideas and I think stayed fairly stable) and we go get our baby Welsh Harlequin ducklings today. YEAH! I'm not adding anything to my wants because I know my impulse buying spirit will be out of control at the swap. I may bring my birds nest necklaces - I'll post a picture tonight to see if any interest. I enjoy them and realized you'all might like nests.
