You can crack one to check for fertility, look for the bulls eye in the yolk and compare with an egg you know is not fertile if you are not sure what to look for. Or, just set some eggs and candle in a week. Have Fun!!
 
Lost a broody's chick today to predation, momma has blood on her comb and beak. She tried to fight off the attacker(assuming a hawk). Life in the country with free-ranging birds.

Already snowed in and still sticking.

The chickens want no part of it. One lone bantam rooster ran down the pasture to the protection of the pine trees. Nobody else followed him. He was stranded on the far side of a lot of snow. Nelson had to go rescue him. Maybe we'll put pumpkins in the run to try to lure them out to play.
