Oregon

I am in Hillsboro and just got our first chicks yesterday. Golden Sex Link, Rhode Island Red, 2 Easter Eggers, Black Sex Link, Silver Laced Wyndote. So far everything has been fine except the RIR has pastey butt. I just got her cleaned up and hoping for the best. Since I am so new to chickens this site has been an awesome resource!!!

Sweet!! Congrats!!

Can you guys direct me to any threads that give ideas for integrating "chicks"? I am used to doing older birds into a flock but new chick in with chicks, not so great luck in the past. I have a chick that took an extra 2 days to get up and wild/active. Now I need to put him in with 7 others. I plan to change the brooder (ie change the environment) by adding a "new" feeder and waterer and hope that distracts them, and maybe some "obstacles" to go around. Just usually have a "new" chick get killed if it's not super on its toes. Any suggestions welcome. I just don't need a "single" in another brooder, but don't want it dead either, ugh.

I never have to do anything different when they are that young. I put chicks together of different ages all the time without issue, up to 3-4 weeks apart in age. The only time I don't do that is if I have large fowl that are more than three weeks and the new hatchlings are bantams, and that's just because of size.

Ive never heard of trouble with integrating chicks of close age. Maybe, like you said, add some obstacles, change the feed and water location at the same time.

Thanks guys. Maybe I just had bum luck the last 2 times or those single chicks weren't robust enough. I will try to integrate tonight after work. I feel better knowing it is SUPPOSED to work so I wasn't just being a dumb cluck.
