Thank you! Thank you!

Big Red is something else. Was he just a simple buff x blue cross? If you can get your hands on a new hampshire red hen, that might give you somewhere to start.Another thing is what Speckledhen suggested by using a meg cross of BO x RIR. I have a young 14 week old one and she's already a big girl and has big white legs.

Big Red is from my hatching eggs...I had a Buff Orpington hen (stil do at times when she can get into the blue orp pen) lol..in the Blue/Black/Splash pen when MP asked me for hatching eggs.. I told her there would be a buff and also a Light Brahma hen in and that I did not have a place to move them since it was still quite wintery here...So Big Red is a mix of a Blue Orpington rooster mating with a Buff Orpington hen...

TOH, put that roo in with your buff and lets get some eggs going. LOL

I wonder what the chances are of getting another one to hatch like he did. Remember he was the first to hatch, the biggest and strongest chick in that group of hatching eggs. He also dominated the flock until Curly grew nearly twice his size.

You have a pullet from that cross don't you? How deep is her red or rust coloring?

Not a great pic of her but this is a pullet from the blue orp rooster and the buff orp hen....she has pretty orange lacing around her neck...she is a keeper here...

I think you would just have to hatch acouple dozen out...take the ones who have the most colorings that you want and try from there....
