With the silver Appleyard ducklings 4 weeks post hatch and HUGE, there was no longer any excuse for delaying the duck house build. The plan is for a 4'x8' elevated duck house attached to a 12'x8' fully enclosed run. We'll post progress pics as we move along, and we're very open to advice and suggestions.

Here is the back wall of the duck house. There will be a drop down door and two doors above it that swing out providing access for clean-out. The swing out doors will have windows for ventilation.

Here are all the walls built and ready to moved on site.

The site for the duck house is down behind the garden. We're going to set it on 6x6 hemlock timbers situated and leveled on a bed of stone.

Then we started to put the pieces together...

    More pics...

All leveled up. This picture is looking from the back where the clean-out door is.

Then it was on to figuring the roof angle. This is looking from the front.

Then it was into the shop to make all the trusses. The entire run will be roofed.

Thanks! Where in Maine? Do you have a coop? Is it insulated? We have not made that decision yet.

Well that's definitive! :) It's been such a cold wet spring. The move to the duckhouse will be a big change for them.
