Parakeet problem

Sorry, my dad said it sounds like it has a bit of a cold, or one side of its nose is clogged up. Vitamins won't hurt. He also said if its really sick, they lose feathers and what feathers remain get puffed up. He said it looks healthy other than the noise. A vet isn't a bad idea though

My cockatiel did that a few years ago. Took him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics and he got better. It’s always best to take them to the vet. Parakeets are very fragile and an illness can go from bad to worse very quickly. Sorry he’s sick.

I would gladly take him to a vet, but the only exotic vet is almost three hours away(my animal shelter doesn’t accept birds because they’re “exotic”) and I cannot make it there on time. Could I possibly find vitamins at the pet store?

I just checked his nostrils better and he has some sort of dry yellow substance around it

Vitamins can’t hurt, and they could do him some good. Try to keep him from stress and the hustle and bustle of the house. I hope it’s just a little cold and he gets better soon!

What bedding are you using in his cage? It's possible the bedding might be making him breathe like that, esp when you said he breathes fine when he is perching on your finger.
It is quite a tall cage, underneath the floor is some newspaper. However the other bird I have is breathing perfectly fine

I agree that vitamins might help. Good luck!
