Type will ALWAYS place over colour if they are judging according to the standard. (Assuming there are no colour DQs.)
Now, I have found the exact opposite. I have 2 partridge pullets that are very nice type, but people have been going crazy over them being "best to standard" pullets that they have ever seen. They both have the rich chestnut colored crest. Not too dark. They have won Res.Ch.FL at the only 2 shows that they have been entered. The last show there were a lot of black & white silkies that I think were more finished than my kids, but for some reason people have been making this huge fuss over these 2 ladies. And I don't mean just a little fuss, I mean a huge fuss. It has caused me to lose a friend over it, for which I am very sad.
Pennie, I saw your birds at the Vilas County Fair this summer and just want to say they are gorgeous !!
