Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Type will ALWAYS place over colour if they are judging according to the standard. (Assuming there are no colour DQs.)

Now, I have found the exact opposite. I have 2 partridge pullets that are very nice type, but people have been going crazy over them being "best to standard" pullets that they have ever seen. They both have the rich chestnut colored crest. Not too dark. They have won Res.Ch.FL at the only 2 shows that they have been entered. The last show there were a lot of black & white silkies that I think were more finished than my kids, but for some reason people have been making this huge fuss over these 2 ladies. And I don't mean just a little fuss, I mean a huge fuss. It has caused me to lose a friend over it, for which I am very sad.

Pennie, I saw your birds at the Vilas County Fair this summer and just want to say they are gorgeous !!

I just skimmed the entire forum looking for pictures of mature silver partridge. I purchased a pair this summer. After reading recent posts (in the 130s), it seems that I have a pair of lavender split that looks like blue partridge. They are very light. Does anyone have a "grown up" picture of a similar breeding? These two are 3-4 months.

i dont know if judges realy know what correct

The process and testing to become a licensed judge is VERY, VERY difficult. Can you list the proper weights for all breeds? Know the differences in type between sultans, houdans, polish and silkies? Know the difference in type between plymouth rocks and dominques? Know the recognised varieties for Rhode Islands? Know the recognised varieties for largefowl Old English? Etc.

This is not to say that judges never make mistakes, or that some judges are not better/more knowledgeable than others. But I would never make a blanket statement that judges don't know what is correct. There are a number of judges that do, or have, bred and exhibited silkies.

I agree with that. I would not make that statement either but everyone has the right to their own opinion. Yes, the process is extremely difficult and I surely would want no part of trying to be licensed as a judge. I have a great deal of respect for those who have the ambition and knowledge to go through that process and greatly value their opinion. We have all seen mistakes in judging, but as a whole the entire group does a wonderful job at what they do. An entire day of pulling birds and examining every one of them, has to no less, then a trying job. It would have to be a labor of love. I have had some very helpful and enlightening information from the judges and my thanks to all of them for the wonderful work that they do at the shows and all the help they have given to our Juniors.

I'm not sure I understand what you are meaning about your partridge pullets? Are you saying they were selected over better type birds?

I do agree with the comment about true friends. Why should differences of opinions about your birds matter to anyone but you?

No shes saying her chestnut crested girls won over her dark crested girls, though all have exceptional type and look alike except coloring - both girls that had won Reserve Ch. FL were chestnut/red crested

No rust color on them... perhaps a touch on the crest... much lighter and the entire body is more silver than the 1308 bird. So mine might be lavender splits that look like? They have definite partridge penciling.

I guess I'll have to wait until spring to see how they will look. I was just curious if anyone had a picture of a really light grey partridge with no brown showing at all.

Okay, so they were equal in type, but the ones whose colour met the standard better won? Sounds right to me. The partridge standard does not call for dark heads. Some people LIKE that look (actually, I like it better), but it is not what the standard calls for.
