Yoda, You will get all IBBS chicks split to midnight, genetically. You can not differentiate them from the regular IBBS, visually. At the second generation,the brother and sister chicks mating at maturity, or the male chick back to mother,will result in some pure midnight chicks along with IBBS.

Can I breed a daughter back to the father? Never read anyone saying that. Most say son to mother. My charcoal pairs' chicks are 2 years old and I seen the IB split to charcoal breed and was wondering if I can put her in with her father if it would give me more charcoals this year? There are a few pieds split charcoal from him as well and am trying to breed a charcoal pied male.

Yes you can breed. But the daughter chick is blackshoulder split to midnight and her father is only IBBS. The chicks that you will get from this cross are 1) IBBS, and 2) IBBS split to midnight.. Since your goal is to produce a midnightBS male, may be a female, It has to be son to mother. You know that charcoal hens do not lay eggs, even if they do, they wont be fertile, at least what I learnt from this forum. To get charcoal pied chicks (male and female), 1) we need two charcoal or split to charcoal parents. 2)One parent must carry a white gene, which means , A charcoal split white parent. 3) the other parent like we said must be a charcoal and also must carry a pied gene, Since the pure charcoal hen do not lay, she must be a split to other colors, example IB split charcoal. Like we said , this particular hen must also carry a white gene if the male is carrying a pied gene and vice versa..... What I do not know is that a charcoal hen split to any pattern color, white,pied,BS,w/e etc. can lay fertile eggs ????. Your 2 yr old IB split charcoal hen can be used as one parent, ony if she is either SPLIT TO WHITE OR SPLIT TO PIED. otherwise you will not get pied charcoal male chick from this hen. The pied split charcoal male is perfect as one parent , since this male carrys one white gene and one pied gene.

I have a charcoal male w/e split to pied and an IB split to charcoal and pied hen. Out of them I got hens. I want to know if I would get more charcoal chicks if I bred the daughter back to the father. The daughter is IB split to charcoal and I have another that is IB split to charcoal but has a few white flights and white feathers scattered around her body LOL. My goal is to breed a charcoal pied.

The hens that you got from the original pair genetics is like this. !0 Indiablue split charcoal white eyed (white color scattered all over her body and w.f.f.) This hen does not have a white gene. Breeding this hen back to the father who is split to pied, WILL NOT produce charcoal pied birds. The principle here is, One parent must have white gene and the other must have a pied gene.in order to get pied chicks. Your other hen that you got from the original pair genetics is " Indiablue split charcoal also split pied ". Breeding this hen back to the father who is split to pied will only produce some dark pied chicks. The missing gene here is A WHITE. to produce pieds. You know that the presence of one copy of pied gene does not show any visual white color any where on the body. Dark pied (two copies of pied gene in a single bird ) birds show white flights and a small white throat patch also. Let us see what you will get crossing These daughter hens back to the father. Charcoal w/e split pied father x Indiablue w/e split charcoal hen.= 1)Charcoal w/e, 2) Charcoal w/e split pied, 3) IB split charcoal with two copies of white eyes. 4) IB split charcoal w/e split pied 5) Charcoal with 2 copies of w/e.. Charcoal w/e split pied father x IB split pied hen = Charcoal, Indiablue split charcoal some carry one copy of w/e, some are split to pieds and some are dark pied. Sorry Yoda no pieds. You have most of the ingradients . All we need is a white gene. Your IB split charcoal split pied hen (not showing any white visual) is perfect as a female parent. You need a charcoal split white male to go with her.

Yoda, if you have a white hen, breed her to your charcoal male. Any female offspring will be carrying one copy w/e and will be either (pied split charcoal) or (Indian blue split charcoal and white). Of these, you could breed either hen to achieve charcoal pied white-eyed (since the male is white-eyed) or charcoal pied white-eyed double copy (silver pied?)

I do have an extra white hen and she is suppose to be a spaulding but hell if I know how to tell the whites apart from each other - they all look the same to me LOL

I was looking at my thread about the Charcoal chicks and read post 37 where Deerman says I got white chicks from my charcoal pair cause the male has silver pied in him and she has pied in her. So my original pair can produce a pied charcoal correct?

Hey everyone I'm new to all this genetics but I got my first peafowl today and I'm wondering if I understand it somewhat so far on what I'll get out of them. I have a ib bs peacock with a bronze hen so I will get Indian blues split to bs and bronze? Sorry know this isn't peach question you all seem more knowledgeable so I asked lol

All the first generation chicks will look Indiablue, actually they are 50% IBBS and 50%Bronze genetically. They are called Indiablue split bronze and blackshoulder. When these chicks attain maturity, if you breed brother to sister, at the second generation ,you will get, pure bronze, pure BS, and IB split bromze split BS in the ratio of 25:25:50
