I still got to wait 6 month until my first hatch. :hit
Maybe a test before the real thing. Since my hens were so early laying eggs I need to wait a little longer before I start. They say that hens around the time they start laying are in "bloom" and at their prettiest. That's why you should time the hatch with the show(s). Mine are well "done"... laying well. For a large chicken they don't need a lot of time to grow up.
Next year! Everything is going to be different. Starting with coccidia immunization and later hatch....
Oh, @Erba ... try washing your roosters with the yellowing. My friend uses shampoo for white horses. It might help with the yellowing. She has some issues as well... but it might actually be hard to get rid of.
By the way... Robert Höck hast a new video about Sulmtaler. My breeder friend Eva was featured in it. When you look at about minute 11+ you'll see a gold-wheaten hen. She came from my flock. I had hatched as a test and Eva took the chicks.

thanks for video, nice chickens.

white chickens do get yellow when spend time outside on sunny days. I have read somewhere in the forum that people that show white birds keep them in a shadow.

True! So do yellow chickens. I was told from an orpington breeder that the buff orpingtons have an issue when they get wet and then the sun is shining. The sun bleaches the feathers and the water enhances the strength of the sun.

Wow so many colours! I love them all! Bet you would also like to have another colour with yours...we can dream 😂 I suppose most chicken breeds come in different colours, I know the speckled Sussex is much more popular in England and the US, the Coronation Sussex is very rare now, and then there is white, buff, red and silver. Story goes, that in 1903 a couple of men decided to create a Sussex Poultry Club, and at the first meeting there was chaos, because all the farmers thought that all their breeds were Sussex and every one of them wanted them to look like theirs. I' can just imagine it, because before that time, Sussex chickens were any chicken that laid a good amount of eggs and was good for eating. :lau

oh yes... I wish I had more space... but as it is right now I barely have enough for the one color. :hit :lau

@Erba you I almost went with Sussex for extra layers. You know I have those 3 Bielefelder. I was considering Sussex in yellow. There is a breeder 10 minutes down the road from me. I think they are really pretty. I really liked the red but they are hard to come by. For some reason I don't care for the speckled ones.

I just ordered butchering cones, to make my life a bit easier, and not have to wait for others to help me. I think I can do it with the cones on my own, because you don't need to hold them.

I also just got an email from the breeder, my eggs are on their way! :wee
