My family, friends and me wait for a vaccine bc we don’t want to spread the disease, don't want overcrowded hospitals and ICs so people who need oxygen have more chances to survive. The 50+ among us are at higher risk and they don’t want to die or become invalid by Covid. But we all don’t want to neglect advices for distancing so other people could die or become invalid because of our neglect.
We were lucky only some the younger generation got infected by Covid. Even they got really sick and lost taste bc of this virus. I’m quit sure if we had all gathered with birthdays and festivities we would have had a few funerals by now.
Besides... the fines in Germany are rather steep.. I don't feel like getting caught and having to pay for not keeping to the restrictions.

Just candled my eggs again. It's day 14 so just one more week to go. Had to take another four out, blood rings and just stopped. So I now have 13 still in. Tomorrow a girl is comming to take one of my roosters. She also wants two hens, so I'm going to sell her two, I don't really want or need. The younger ones, just to make it fair. She wants them for her mother, who lost a rooster lately and likes the look of mine. A friend of mine also wants to try one out in his flock. If it doesn't work out, I said I would take him back. Just want to avoid having to butcher them myself if I don't have to.

Sure thing! Sell what you can! I prefer selling to butchering.... there are enough to butcher as it is.

I think I have 2 broodies now, sharing one nest with 5 fake eggs. 🤣.
Hope to pick up some (8-10) real eggs today. But the owner doesn’t answer his phone.

The idea to pick them up on the bike isn’t very tempting today. It’s cold, we have lots of wind and hail/snow in between short periods of sunshine.

With the car the eggs will cost quit a bit more because the ferry for the car costs like € 7,50 for 2 rides. Going round is cheaper but is at least an extra 30 km and will take longer then a bike trip 🤔 .

A little delay but I can pick the eggs up at Thursday around noon. 🕛

Now I have a question about waiting and storing shipped eggs before putting them under a broody.
Do I keep them at room temp or a bit colder ? Is 12 hours rest enough? Or is 24 hours s minimum? Do I store them with the point up?

They will be packed in a little toilet paper + in an egg box for normal sized eggs. And will be transported only 5 km in a steady bike bag.

I believe @Erba or @abpatchy have bought fertilised and shipped eggs before. If you are not sure I can post the question in a new thread.

I have never dealt with shipped eggs before. The one time I picked up hatching eggs I drove 2 plus hours.
You definitly store them with the pointy side down. And honestly you don't have to worry about that little bike ride. It will not hurt them at all!! Shipped eggs means box... post office or some other delivery service... boxes being turned upside down and thrown. Riding on the bike is fine! Don't worry! Unless you are riding on a really bad road with all kind of bumps.
I would store them at room temperature. I store my eggs cool while collecting. When I get ready to incubate then I move them into room temperature to get the egg to adjust. You don't want to shock the egg.
12 hour rest is more than enough, if you even have to worry about it.

Good luck!!! Can't wait for the little guys to hatch! :jumpy

Thanks Abpatchy! 👍
They will be biked 🚴 and shipped 🚢 with a tiny ferry crossing the Rhine. But I won’t count the ship!

Plan: I’m going to store the eggs a few hours with the point down. Mark them with a pencil and change the fake eggs Thursday evening.

I hope the cold weather isn’t going to spoil the eggs. Its around freezing temp at night an 7 C max during the day.

😉 Hope to get not so much guys. Ladies are more welcome.
