When I was in S.A. I had to go to my doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics for one of my hens.. The State vet was the only one I could call for help and he could only do so much. Thankfully my doctor was great and gave me a prescription, no questions asked and didn't even charge me for the "consultation" :)
I've been curious, what did you think of S.A? I'm strongly wanting to move to the African mainland and right now S.A is one of the most stable countries. Do you think it would be a good fit for an American?

No, I wouldn't go there. Things are very volatile in S.A. at the moment. If you don't mind, I'd rather not go into it here.

S.A. used to be amazing and it's a beautiful country. I loved living there before things went downhill.

Yes I've got some of those too - 2 pullets of which I'm sure one is laying but the 2nd may have started yesterday as had a funny coloured egg. I also have a young roo but I cna't decide if I want to keep him or not.

I also have shades of tan / cream (faverolles girl I think), and one looks slightly pink next to the browner ones so hoping I can get a real mix of colours from Olive green with marans / araucana mix and other shades of green with the other shades of brown. I'm also going to get some Cream Legbars (had no success twice might even try to get day old chicks off him if he has some in the brooder when I have a broody) of a local breeder and he was picking up some green laying eggs too so will probably try to get my hands on some of them too!

I actually had the thought of starting this thread when I spotted the Portuguese person but also can't remember thier name. There are also a couple of peeps from more eastern Europe (Latvia I want to say but cant' really remember). If anyone spots them just copy thier user names and tag them on here - the more the merrier!

:D just before Christmas I had a fabulous weekend in Wales for my brothers wedding (he lives in Penarth). It was at Pont-y-pen ?? (Bridgeend) on a farm - so much fun - in the torrential rain :lau:lau

Hi and welcome!

Sounds similar to me - had mine just over a year and up to 18!!! I have a friend who lives on Gozo.
Awesome ... Do they have chickens?

Great post Shadrach. Do you have Action in Spain? I discovered generic Vaseline there for only 99c a big pot.
If and when others contribute with drug names they can get perhaps we could make a list with the companies web site and/or where to buy.
Really good idea - I have no first aid kit which is really bad

Viovet are online, you can get most medications from there
I'll have to have a look.
I think what I would like to see regarding chickens across Europe and America is more awareness of battery hens. There is a massive rehoming drive in UK at the moment.
I often see them advertised here too - on the equivilent of gumtree.
Not here they don't. I can walk into the chemist here and buy them accross the counter.
I've not tried but my pharmisist was lovely about selling me ether to put down a chick.
For much of Southern Europe rules etc that apply to the cities don't apply out in the sticks. For many of the farms here and in Southern Italy, Sicily the rule books and standard practices just aren't relevant.
Not surprised!
I would be more interested in what people can actually get locally and what they actually use.
I've been looking in my local ag' type shops and there doesn't seem to be a lot past vitamins and perhaps coccidosis treatements.
Not being political....but....there is alot of regulatory breaches by some EU member states.
NO :eek::lau
Suggest to someone here you should be buying chick grit in little bags, or covering the ground with DE
I haven't seen chick grit here but DE seems to be available most places. For scaley leg mite everyone on French sites swears by cade oil which I've not found in shops but is online everywhere.
Fwiw, I can code a table into posts here. If you need one, let me know.
Do you mean so we can put it in the first post or something with a table of available meds and things?
They have one in the village where the local priest blesses the livestock here.;)
Wow!
:frow Just having a read through first!
I would too before you commit - you dont' know what you are getting yourself into with some of the shady characters already hanging about :lau:lau:lau
