The girls are checking out their new digs! Still under construction but getting close!

Your coop looks great!

Today was gorgeous. We let the older poults out, one of the silkies came out, the guinea pig got to play outside and I still got nothing done. I was beat all day. I think it might've had something to do with the window popping and the cat knocking stuff off the dresser and jumping from the dresser to my side of the bed all through the night! Even G grumbled something about locking her out, LOL! Ah well, the poults got along with everyone except for the black chicken who thinks she's a turkey. Nobody bothered the little silkie either. I will have to start transitioning the turks to the main flock I guess.

Quote: My guess is Cochin too. As for the flying, at a month old, everyone else is flying all over the place. She made it out of the brooder after many tries, and I have not seen her move to fly since. She hops up and down the steps. I THINK I saw her perched last night. I will check tonight. I hate the idea of her sleeping alone.
Quote: I bought two birds at the Pennsylvania Avian Association ... whatever they are called. last year. The guy in charge insisted a week was long enough to wait. I wait a month or more.
I have some black/splits from my American's to sell. Right now 7 chicks. All under 2 weeks old.
What is a split?
Quote: Jealous. Nice coop.

Cochins really don't fly well as adults either so I wouldn't worry too much. If she really wants up on the perch, she will get there as long as it isn't too high. You may consider putting a ramp or a couple of lower perches she can hop onto to get to the higher one. Of all of the chicks I've had, Silkies & Cochins are the only ones I've never had to worry about flying out of an uncovered brooder.

Well, you can definitely find her in the Diary Thread, wrapping up the Easter Hatch-A-Long, and she's just been kidnapped over to the Cinco De Mayo Hatch-A-Long, so any one of those places.

But...but...but...we're the most important!!!!

I see feathered feet (more pix would be helpful) so maybe a cochin mix. Most chicks don't really "fly", they just get a few inches off the ground by jumping & flapping.

One of our babies decided it was done being held...so attempted to fly....right into the feed bag....luckily it landed there...instead of falling all the way to the concrete floor!

Who else's chickens are very happy?? Been out cleaning my flower beds and garden and they are getting all the leaves and weeds! They are in heaven! Also feeling bad for my mottled Cochins, had to pluck their back ends. Man I hate plucking my eye brows so can only imagine how it felt for them? Anyone else ever pluck for increased fertility?

Ummm.....if I have to pluck their backends to improve fertility...I will simply have infertile chickens! But from all reports...yes, my chickens were thrilled with the beautiful day and all the activity going on in the yard for them to supervise. DH put 1 of my new rain barrels up, and fixed 2 others (stupid birds sat on the screens to get to the water...found they don't swim nearly as well as they thought!) Son in Law and 1 grandson chopped up the apple tree we lost in Sandy. DH cleared up the general mess that was the back/side yard. Step-daughter grilled lunch for all the kids...who then fed most of their lunch to VERY happy chickens. And me? I drove to NJ and shopped for food/decorations for the baby shower with my mom.

somebody was asking if I had any broodies,   yes I do but I think moving them would disrupt that broodiness....I have 3 right now...1 jersey giant ...1 silkie (white older girl)...1 serama, must take her roo also .

What's your work schedule this week? I might just chance breaking the broody cycle. (And BTW it was me)

We built this feeder today and layed out plans for the automatic waterer. DH will run to Lowe's after dinner. We are using a large metal water tank for a holding tank. Is using metal an issue? I will have a little cleanout valve inside the coop on the PVC to add ACV or meds or anything.

We also found all of the extra 4x4s and fence posts that we have laying around so that we can start to map out the run.
And we started laying out the deck for the coop.
And we brought some of the chickens out into a playyard in the grass so they could have their first fun in the sun!

Busy day. The girls (3 & 5) are exhausted and so am I!

That's an awesome feeder!

Nice meeting Chad and wing today. And Chad, I found the quail under the couch.

Only around this thread is noone surprised by that statement.

Thank you! It isn't finished yet, but here is a picture of the whole thing
