Quote: My guess is Cochin too. As for the flying, at a month old, everyone else is flying all over the place. She made it out of the brooder after many tries, and I have not seen her move to fly since. She hops up and down the steps. I THINK I saw her perched last night. I will check tonight. I hate the idea of her sleeping alone.
Quote: I bought two birds at the Pennsylvania Avian Association ... whatever they are called. last year. The guy in charge insisted a week was long enough to wait. I wait a month or more.
What is a split?I have some black/splits from my American's to sell. Right now 7 chicks. All under 2 weeks old.
Quote: Jealous. Nice coop.
Thank you! It isn't finished yet, but here is a picture of the whole thing

Cochins really don't fly well as adults either so I wouldn't worry too much. If she really wants up on the perch, she will get there as long as it isn't too high. You may consider putting a ramp or a couple of lower perches she can hop onto to get to the higher one. Of all of the chicks I've had, Silkies & Cochins are the only ones I've never had to worry about flying out of an uncovered brooder. My guess is Cochin too. Well, you can definitely find her in the Diary Thread, wrapping up the Easter Hatch-A-Long, and she's just been kidnapped over to the Cinco De Mayo Hatch-A-Long, so any one of those places.
I see feathered feet (more pix would be helpful) so maybe a cochin mix. Most chicks don't really "fly", they just get a few inches off the ground by jumping & flapping.
Who else's chickens are very happy?? Been out cleaning my flower beds and garden and they are getting all the leaves and weeds! They are in heaven! Also feeling bad for my mottled Cochins, had to pluck their back ends. Man I hate plucking my eye brows so can only imagine how it felt for them? Anyone else ever pluck for increased fertility?
somebody was asking if I had any broodies, yes I do but I think moving them would disrupt that broodiness....I have 3 right now...1 jersey giant ...1 silkie (white older girl)...1 serama, must take her roo also .
We built this feeder today and layed out plans for the automatic waterer. DH will run to Lowe's after dinner. We are using a large metal water tank for a holding tank. Is using metal an issue? I will have a little cleanout valve inside the coop on the PVC to add ACV or meds or anything.

We also found all of the extra 4x4s and fence posts that we have laying around so that we can start to map out the run.
And we started laying out the deck for the coop.
And we brought some of the chickens out into a playyard in the grass so they could have their first fun in the sun!
Busy day. The girls (3 & 5) are exhausted and so am I!
Nice meeting Chad and wing today. And Chad, I found the quail under the couch.
Thank you! It isn't finished yet, but here is a picture of the whole thing

How many peeps are you looking for? Do you want bantams or Large Fowl?
I don't dare ask what you have but tell me any ways. My hubby has turned crazy and keeps wanting more. Doesn't matter the size to me.
Poor little spot died today.
