Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We've spent 2 days putting lawn furniture and potted plants away, and wrapping my chicken runs in tarps to hopefully keep them dry. Some of my birds live in a building, but most of them live year round in kennel runs. They all have food & water for 3 days, plus some ear corn to pick at for entertainment. They should get through this just fine, but I'll be worried til the wind stops and I can check on them again.

Our area seems to lose power a lot, so we have a generator ready to go. Last major hurricane (whose name I forget) we were without for 5 days. I hate the noise of the generator, but I'm glad to be able to keep my freezers and the well pump going. Next on our list is a propane hot water heater.
I wish I would have picked up some cabbage heads to throw in my coops, major boredom busters, but with dealing w/ everything else, I forgot.

Welcome to all the new comers!

I just moved my silkies up to higher ground so they don't drown. They are packed in a little tight, but I hope that at least they will stay safe!! We are bordered by 2 creeks, so flooding is a huge concern.

I just heard on the news that we could be without power for 7-10 days. I have filled everything I could find with water since we have a well.

I hope you all stay safe!

Quote: I am interested !!! funny thing is I have 2 buff orp's and 2 lemon cuckoo orp's and they are no where near my favorites, they are kind of kept because of the nice big eggs I get from them......but when I seen the pics of this boy I was mesmerized, he is gorgeous....I didn't realize they came in so many colors....I have 1 young blue hen about 10 weeks old I will have to search for a pic of what she will look like as an adult.

Beaglady! Havent' seen you in forever!!

Bruce, I've been wondering about your meaties in the shed, they are meaties, right? So now did you bring this Hurricane with you from FL?

Motorcycle Chick, hope DH is okay. This is NO weather for a motorcycle.

. My Black Orps did quite well at the Show in Jersey, if I can get my act together, I plan on taking them (and a pullet from a different line) to the MD show this coming weekend.

ChickyDee, I've also been worrying about your incubator, how weird is that? Aren't you about to go in to lockdown?
I go into lockdown on Sat. This is my 2nd batch of Brahma eggs. 1st one were 0 hatch rate. I actually have some developing this time!! We don't normally lose power so I am not sure what to expect. The chickens were not happy to stay in the coop this morning but I didn't want them to blow away. I

Chicky, what type of brahma?

I am working on getting a new roo for my girls. Possibly this week!

OH NO,,,,,,I just went to lockdown the bator of quail, and instead they are hatching, did I figure wrong ?but I figured I could keep the temps up in the incubator even if we lost electric, but how am I gonna keep baby quail warm...
if worse comes to worse, i have used zip lock bags, fill with hot water, covered with a wash rag or towel. course you have to keep checking to make sure they don't over heat, i've used this alot raising hookbill babies from day one, i also have used a styrofoam box with the lid cracked a little bit with the zip lock filled with hot water.
