You mean I'm not the only crazy chicken lady with a house chicken?
This is Frack (she has a sister named Frick). She had both sides pretty ripped by a roo earlier this spring. I let her recuperate in the kitchen, had her nearly healed, and then she went out and got ripped wide open again. Now she goes out in the front yard during the day. She meets her sister and a couple of other hens out front. The guys don't jump or fly over the fence and are too big to get under where the girls do, so they don't have to worry as long as they stay in the front yard. When Frack wants to lay an egg, she comes to the front door and taps on the glass to be let in. She comes in and lays her egg in the kitchen in her own personal (dog) bed. Then she does her egg laying cackle all the way to the front door and waits to be let out. She is healed again, but her feathers are a long time coming back in.
Here's where she roosts at night. She is progressively going higher up the stairs. I tell my husband sooner or later she will end up in our bed with us! She surprisingly rarely leaves any "presents" on the floor and holds them until she goes out.
