(PICS@POST #1)Starting a dozen eggs Sunday, Oct 2...any joiners?

Out of the beautiful 15 silkie eggs I received only 5 have definite veining. I will leave the others for another 3 days but they look really clear. My eggs went out on the wrong mail truck then went back to the post office then were left out on the truck all night then I received them the next day

You cant even see the yolk in the 10 clear like they were scrambled in the egg and they were packed incredibly! I bet if they had not been packed so well I wouldn't have any! But 5 is good

So glad that at least you got the 5 that are looking promising. I had three batches of eggs with absolutely no hatching and all were clear and bubbly. It's very disconcerting. Good luck I will keep my fingers crossed for healthy silky babies!!

I received three shipments of orpingtons that were all bad earlier so I know how you feel

! It truly amazes me that you can send them through the mail and end up with any

Yeah me too my last two hatches were pretty much bad. I loaded my incubator with three shipments and only one out of the three hatched. The one before the only ones that hatched were my home grown eggs none of the shipped eggs.

So far fingers crossed the ones I have in the incubator are looking good but it's only day 6 so who knows what will happen between now and the end.

we have r.i.r.,gold wyandottes.and productions.they all have been laying in the same nest.yesterday a wyandotte started brooding,my least favorite of the flock.it will be interesting to see how many of each we get, there are 12 eggs
in all.how long do they incubate.and when can i candle them for the first time?

It takes 21 days until they hatch. I usually candle at 10 and 15 days if I can wait that long. You may only want to candle once since you have a hen incubating and probably want to disturb her as little as possible. Good luck!

Sounds like you have some good progress. I've got to check under Miss Cranky Pants lol

later this evening after dark. Can't believe she's been sitting for a week now! I put the 3 eggs under her at 8:30am on the 2nd. So, tonight it'll be about 12 hrs shy of a full week.

I'm hoping to see something when I look...

Day 6 and 2 hours for me. I said I was going to wait until day 11 or maybe 10 to look again. But, my wife wanted to see some. So, I peeked at only 2 this evening. Both had good veining and one showed me an eye near the shell. Both were moving. I haven't culled any yet. Should I? I'm planning to wait until the next candling. This is my first hatch. I have 15 Buff Orpingtons.
