I'm new to the incubating stuff so I don't know much.....I know mine moved around a lot at first when turned but then stayed in one place after a few more days. But I was always able to see the air cell. Also I have green eggs from my ameraucana and they are hard to see into but if held just right with my husbands really bright led light I can see a little...enough to know something is happening in there

You're lucky! I've tried and tried to see into the eggs and can't see a darned thing.

Although they feel heavier, for whatever that's worth.

My broody is queen of the coop so I just left her be right where she is in the box. You should see everyone run when she gives them that look. I think her chicks will be just fine. Heck even the roos keep away from her!

Has anyone else left their broodies right in the nest box? I tried to move her and the eggs once and nearly lost a finger and an eye for my efforts. She is intense right now!

My sisters broody was just like that. None of the other chickens went near her or her eggs and the Roos wouldn't even go in the coop until she was done. The funniest thing was she was a bantam Cochin and the other birds were all LF she didn't care. Lol

That's wonderful! I pulled out 2 on day 10, one was unfertilized and the other looked like it quit around the third or fourth day. Down to 3 out of 10 now, but the three that are left are looking wonderful!
Also, a quick question if anyone knows the answer. Do blood or meat spots affect the hatchability of an egg? I noticed a lot of my eggs that didn't develop and some that were scrambled had blood spots in them, so did the egg that quit. Anyone know?

Wish I could help you out with that one, Misslady. I'd like to know, too. Well, it's day 10 for me and know I said I wouldnt candle again til next week. I lied. Couldnt help it, I wantf to check that one egg again. It had quit, just as I suspected.

The other 7 Silkie eggs are doing wonderful, tho! I think 7 out of 8 shipped eggs making it this far is awesome.

Now if only I can get them to go the distance. I PROMISE not to mess with them anymore til day 18.

Lol! Mine is a banty too. I'm convinced it isn't the size of the dog, it's the fight of the dog! well so to speak. She has no idea that she is the smallest hen...

She has a companion that is setting on 3 eggs now too. Silly birds! You'd think this would be the worst time of the year to hatch eggs.

Day 10. I candled this evening and out of 15, I have 2 infertile

, 5 blood rings

, and 8 definite wigglers

. This is my first hatch. I'm not sure but, the blood rings are possibly due to a heat spike. It went slightly over 102° around day 4. My bad

. These were shipped eggs. So, who knows. I am very happy to have 8 doing well.
