Monday morning I went out to take care of the chickens and found a white leghorn dead. I laid her out in the back pasture instead of burying her. When I do, critters dig 'em up so I just lay them there, tell them thank you for all the eggs they gave me and let the buzzards/hawks do their thing. Tuesday morning an amber link wasn't doing well so I went ahead and wrung her neck and laid her out by the other one. Nothing had started on that one. Tonight I got home and it is dark. One of my kitties got outside so I took the flash light and started looking for her (she's deaf). Found the "dead" Amber Link hiding by the side of the house under a bush. Picked her up and put her back in the coop. She is eating and drinking and seems better than ever!!! I guess I should call her Lazarus!!!! OMG!

Today I found a Barred Rock dead in the coop. Vent looked fine and so did the White Leghorn's that I found dead Monday. They're a year and eight months. Both seemed fine. mmmmmmmm Don't like this. Nothing appears wrong with them, just dropped off the perch dead. I've had this happen before but I hope 2 is it. I can't afford to lose anymore of my egg layers.

You should possibly have them tested to make sure it's not a disease within the flock. Or maybe it's stress from something and like a heart attack?

Three days since Lazarus has risen. Here's a picture of her out in the yard and she is scratching in the leaves and seems better than ever!!! You can see her neck is a little bare where she lost feathers when I was trying to put her down.

I've had them drop dead off the roost during the night before. Maybe a heart attack or something. I don't think it is a disease or anything because they have all been acting fine. I've lost some from a prolapsed vent. Came home and found them dead in the yard with the vent prolapsed. These two who died on their own, their vent was fine and they were acting fine before. Hope 2 is it!

Wow, that really is rather strange! I wonder if maybe there is something they are getting into? Chickens are really good at hiding illness too though so I've heard but if all others are fine maybe not. But perhaps something environmental. Very strange. As for Lazarus, that is almost creepy! Hah but also awesome and amazing. But that said, I'm sure there has to be a perfectly logical explanation? Maybe you didn't do it fully and she simply passed out? Or maybe she truly did rise hah either way, clearly God doesn't think it's her time yet lol
