Recently on discovery channel they ran a segment called 'Pig Bomb'. It documented the explosive growth of feral pigs in N America and Europe. It is even worse over in Europe than here. But here, it supposedly went from 9 states in the 1990's to 40 states today. Much of that was man-made to make them available for hunting. They are terribly destructive and some are really gigantic. An employee of our local Tractor Supply told me when he lived in S Carolina that he and a friend killed one that dressed out just above 700 lbs. They showed two on the TV show that were supposed to be 1100 lbs when shot.
I keep on reading the posts on preds and have yet to see one involving a wild pig invading a run or coop. Seems they are too shy of man to come too close to where we live so far. I am wondering if anyone on this forum has ever heard of a poultry predator incident involving a wild hog. They are so powerful that they would wreck a lot of backyard runs in short order, almost as bad as a black bear.
