Pigeon acting off. Odd poop?

48 hours is a long time for a bird. I would definitely call your vet and let them know how long it has been since she has eaten. My duck had only not eaten for a day (that we had noticed) when we took her in and she was already showing signs of dehydration. My vet had me start tube feeding her immediately.

My duck was also drinking a lot, btw.

I am worried that it has been more than 48 hours, it has been 48 hours at least that is just while I have been constantly monitoring. My vet isn't open on sunday and doesn't pick up the phone but I'll be calling first thing tomorrow morning. I also do not have any tube feeding supplies or any money at all right now, I'll have to borrow some from my mom for the vet visit. Would giving her a small amount of her Mazuri feed the same way I would give her pills be appropriate? I'm just very worried about her and I don't even know if my vet will have the time to see her tomorrow. I assumed she had laid her egg she was struggling with the other day because I found 3 in the coop, and 4 under it, but now I am not so sure I am worried she has been not eating since then. Even though the day after she was out with the other ducks being active.

I would also be worried. To check her hydration I have seen vets take the pad of their thumb and very gently raise the eyelid slightly. Don't touch the eye. If the eyelid snaps back she might be hydrated. If the mucous membranes are dry and tacky the eyelid will close slower and she might be dehydrated.

Does she have a favorite food you can offer her by hand? For example when my duck, Plantain, rejected both tomatoes and mealworms twice I knew she was very sick.

I'm not sure about sliding Mazuri pellets down her throat. I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Unless she's wobbly/lethargic I would probably wait to see what the vet says tomorrow.

Personally, I would find a way to take her in. If they can't squeeze her in for an emergency appointment I hope you can find another clinic that can.

Maybe try raising another one of your duck's eyelids and compare the rate and how "sticky" vs slippery they seem. It is hard to describe, but when seeing it on my Plantain it was clear to me.

If the receptionist tries to tell you they can't fit you in you might try telling them how long it has been since she's eaten and ask if they will let the doctor know and ask the doctor if she will make an exception. Sometimes that works because the doctor might work during lunch to see her or something.

I called my vet and they weren't able to make an appointment with Pigeon until Friday. They referred me to a different emergency clinic that has a steeper price but I called and will be bringing her in soon.

Great, I'm glad you are taking her in today. The diagnostics are going to add up fast, but I suspect she'll need them. Let me know how it goes, please.

Shes still in there with them, needed an X-Ray.. this is not going to be nice to my wallet and will definitely delay my plans for building a run
