Pigeon Talk

Ive set the 2 eggs from my portuguese tumbler hen.

@Misfits Farm 92 i dont want to shoot down your idea, but if you do it, be VERY prepaired.

I plan on doing 4feedings a day. And possibly 1 at night. Do the parents even feed the young at night?
I don't think they do feed at night. As to # of feedings you need to evaluate the crop before you feed more. I found that the correct temperature of the formula is important. I believe you are qualified in terms of knowledge and dedication to undertake this as you know the difficulties and the eggs have no chance without you.

Looks like perfect pigeon space!
That’s a bunch of rabbits. Do you eat them or breed them, or just her pets?
We’ll help you figure out a plan to get her to share some space. :fl
She was breeding them for a couple of years. These are what is left from the breeding stock and a few pets. I was hoping when she got the horse she'd lose interest and sell them. I'll have to continue with my passive hinting strategy!

Your DW has a well organized rabbitry! Very attractive. Until I saw that I was going to suggest she might be happy with a house rabbit...I don't think so now:lol:. Could the rabbit hutches be in the pigeon flight pen? The bunny that lives under the loft doesn't bother my birds.

Tell DW that you heard somewhere that Rabbit can become rabid,,,,, or something like that,,,,,,:lau
and see what she thinks about thinnin the herd.. :gig
:gigOne of the advantages of being a rodent or lagomorph(rabbit) is that you do NOT get rabies...now tularemia, aka rabbit fever, is pretty serious and transmissable to humans.

Doba is back with the flock - first thing this morning, after a day in her cage to rest from being pursued by severl cockbirds. She ate with them ...I never see her eating in her cage. I'm trying to leave her out there as her mood seems good but I worry she'll get hurt again. I just checked and she managed to get herself to a mid level perch somehow so that's good. I hope for some more improvement although she now holds that wing way higher than the normal one so something is definitely not right.

Good news! :clap

We already have a house hen! I'm not sure she'd want any more animals in the house! If we could sell/rehome 5-6 then I could rearrange the right side for the rabbits and have the left side for pidgies. We'll have to sit down and have an adult conversation about this! :lau Is myxamotosis the same ad rabbit fever? That is always our biggest worry. It's spread by mosquitoes then rabbit to rabbit.
That's good news that doba is back in with the rest of the flock. Hopefully it will encourage her to make a more normal movement with her wing. Even if she can't fly she can still get around on the perches which is good.

Myxamatosis is viral and specific to rabbits...not other mammals. Tularemia is bacterial and can affect humans. Does your DW show any signs of becoming a pigeon fancier? Would some pretty white racers attract her attention?:D

She does like the pigeons and is good when I need her to hold them or feed them if I'm out but I don't think she's all that into them. She does get everso concerned if I take any out for a lob! I should try getting one that is super tame and flys to her when she goes out!

well the ports will be tame of they hatch and make it. I would love to have a few more that would come in command!

Alright yall, im um, um incubating pigeon eggs. I said i would never do it. But i do want more ports. So wish me luck!
:clap
Best of luck! And keep us posted!
:fl:pop
It looks like my planned expansion of the loft has hit the buffers. DW has decided she wants to keep the rabbits. :( I'll have to put plan B into action, not sure what that is yet but I'll think of something!
Im sure you will! :D
