Pigeon Talk

Those look pretty neat! Wonder if building a few individual squares from 2x2’s, attach hardware cloth on one side, lay them on the ground, the wire would be 2” off the ground. I guess they could even be made with legs. But they would be moveable to shovel out from under. Hmmmmmmm

Gosh, she’s pretty! :love
Thank you, she makes beautiful sex-linked babies.:)

Awesome! What color is her mate?
He is a blue bar. She is ash red check. Ash red is the dominant color over blue or brown. So paired with blue or brown she produces ash red cocks and blue or brown hens. :)

They caught the goshawk. It was about 3 miles away. They used a dead chick and a quail as bait.
:woot

Neat! Guess I need to check out some pigeon genetics.
I’m not even sure what color my “brown” one is considered.

She really is a sweet little thing. When held her earlier and she buried her head inbetween my arm and my side! She just stayed there! She is very good. Considering she is a feral she doesn't act it. I think they know when they're hurt and are being helped.
Watch that, my boy was easy to handle and almost sweet, he was also silent, but once he figured out I wasn't going to eat him, he started screaming bloody murder (squeaker) every time I walked in the room and god forbid I tried to touch him, the screaming and ninja chopping were ridiculous. I can catch him now, but he does a lot of growling and wing chopping along the way. So, that sweet "I can't believe it's a feral" behavior is likely a defense mechanism for being hurt and handled by a predator. I thought mine was cuddly too... lol

I think your probably right there! I did tell the DW that it is actually her pigeon as she bought it home! Unless it stays nice and cuddly in which case it's mine, but if it turns into a ninja chopping, growling monster, its hers!!

What I have learned comes mostly from 2 places, the Univ of Utah linked below ...
https://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/pigeons/color/

and a series of youtube videos by Flying Pigeons...the first one is on base colors and talks about sex linked pairings. The other one is about a modifier called spread.

Warning!
When I posted a few of these on the pigeon BB thread, Ron said they made is eyes glaze over after a few minutes and if he continued to view he developed a tic in the eye..'or was it a headache? I can understand why. :gig

This one is pretty good covering color, pattern and modifiers.
