@WVduckchick, are you aware that as they mature your parlor rollers will most likely lose the ability to fly ?

@Chickencountryuk raises a good point about the strong allergic reaction that can be caused by pigeon dander. I always used one of the cannister type masks from Foys when cleaning lofts. Do an on line search on 'pigeon lung'. It's a serious consideration when working with pigeons.

Broken wing update! She's looking good. After a few trial and errors with how too and how much and how wide I finally got her wing nicely bandaged. The only thing I couldn't do was bandage her wing to her as she kept getting her foot behind it and getting stuck! But th is looks OK I think. I used the x pattern to bandage it and it works a treat.

She's still eating and drinking well, looks a little miffed off but doing OK! I'm also giving her the symphytum pillules daily.

@sourland I read that, about the parlor rollers. Do you know what age? I’m not even sure these can fly now. They can get lift, but I think they are already past full flight stage. It’s about time to take them into the office and see what they can do. We’ve been super busy in the evenings and I’ve been trying to let them acclimate to the cage, etc.

Not certain on the age. I've never had them, but a friend did, and he always kept them in small pens rather than in a loft.

Hmm, maybe then I should just go with a solid floor with bedding?

When I first got the birds in Dec I put a layer of wood shavings on the floor. It worked ok and you don't have to scrape every day but eventually you will have to clean it out and replace it.

So I stopped because when the birds flap their wings around in the loft they blow the shavings into the corners leaving the center bare and leaving shavings clogging the 1/4 hardware cloth on my lower vents. Also I would track it out of the loft and sometimes the whole 15ft into my apt! Shavings in the snow around the loft, etc. I began removing it day by day and now like it much better with no bedding.

A daily look at the poop is always good imo. With bedding on the floor its harder to see whats going on in this regard.

Many different loft designs and options work well...just offering my very recent and short experience fwiw

One more thing - for healthy pigeons, dryness is your friend and dampness is not. Much more critical to get the poop out in rainy humid weather when it doesnt dry up.

She really is a sweet little thing. When held her earlier and she buried her head inbetween my arm and my side! She just stayed there! She is very good. Considering she is a feral she doesn't act it. I think they know when they're hurt and are being helped.

Only annoyance would be trying to plan the loft size around the size of them.
