It was really just that white hen and my dark cock bird who did that, the other two never even tried it. That being said I plan to modify the doors on the loft to have a sort of small feeding hatch I can slip the feeder into. I also think it started because the first few times they did it it was because they flew down from the perches during feeding and overshot their mark, going straight out the door. I was told never to intentionally let the birds out of the main door in the loft so that they didn't try to escape. I think after the first few times they did it they figured out how to slip past me every time. Amittedly I should have done something sooner to correct it, but at least now I only have to worry about the one cock doing it.Probably a good IDEA to borrow a hen like you were considering before. This way you could start having small ones soon.
Not sure if it is possible for you, but your description of loft seemed small to me. Would you consider expanding it to make it larger. That way the pigeons would not be inclined to try and escape any chance possible.![]()
I am currently still in college and living at home, so I don't really have any plans to make a large, permanent loft yet, which is why I opted for a small loft for a small number of birds. I am considering making some improvements and enlarging it but it won't be anything dramatic.
