Pigeon Talk

I think I would put the box back with the egg and let them do their thing where they have decided. In future I would lock them in a breeding box at least until the clutch is set if I didn't want them on the floor.

Loper and 735 were nesting in a box on the floor next to the door to the aviary. I waited until they had been sitting for a few days and raised it up about 10 inches on one of those Rubbermaid Step stools. I did this during the day while 735 was on the nest and he stayed put. Loper came in from the aviary and examined the new situation. She could easily see her mate on the nest in her cardboard box, only about 10 inches above its prev location. Still she went underneath and looked around carefully at the floor where it used to be... perhaps trying to formulate a theory as to the cause of the change and make sure the eggs were not there. It was funny, she circled around looking at the changed setup from several angles. After a few minutes she seemed to accept it and she got on for the night with no problem. If I had tried to move the nest much farther I think I would have had trouble and would probably have to put a cage over it. Also, if I had tried to move it between the first and second egg I think there could have been problems.

How are Brick and Brewer?:)
Very interesting! And yes, we do need an update and pics of them :)

I started a new job and haven't been able to post in a long time. We lost one of our eggs. It got cracked in the nest and didn't make it. We did however just hatch our other egg this morning!!!! Super excited. Should I take the shell out of the nest or will mom eat it?

Congrats on the new job and the new squeaker! :highfive::love

Another of my white homers got out today... It was my best looking cock :( he is sticking around, but doesn't know how to trap since its a breeder. But hopefully he doesn't get picked off. I will still have 2 pairs of he doesn't make it.
Oh no! I am so very sorry.:hugs
Any chance you can lure him in?:fl

I hope you get him back! :fl I have had ferals trap in without training. I had 2 birds slip out recently. All winter they didn't even try - it must be spring fever!

Right, I've removed 6 eggs over the past few days so I decided rather than binning them I'd boil them up and feed them to the chickens! I have a cool little gadget for boiling eggs so I put 6 in it.

you put them in with a little water and leave them to boil. Unfortunately 3 popped and the egg cooker had egg all over inside. It smelt real bad! There is no way I'm even thinking of trying one! The eggs don't seem to want to peel so I just crushed them up with the shells.

The egg whites seem very clear and are like a jelly consistency.

The chickens loved it!

I do that tool I also have employed the boiled eggs as a form of birth control in my pigeon loft. Many times you pigeons will set another pair of eggs again with in days if this measure is not taken. You need only to supply one egg for this exercise.

:clap
I have one of those little cookers too and love it! I think fresher eggs with small air cells tend to crack more. A week or so old, the air cell gets big enough to take the expansion.
I like the soft-boil if I’m eating them. :p

Well, I went out early this morning, and I found all of its feathers :( I think an owl picked it off last night. It was roosting in a tree above the loft, so it wanted back in. Now I'm down to 2 pairs. That was my prettiest bird :(
