Pigeon Talk

thank you everyone for the reply's.
thought it over, and i think am still going to try and make a pigeon loft out of the barn.

now i know i won't get the mature or adults over at the other place but you never know i might be able to get some pigeons breeding and have a wild flock over where my family farm is. but even if i was able to get a few of the off spring to come on over would be awesome.

so you will be seeing me around here asking questions about pigeons and there housing

thanks.
You could investigate the wild flock and try to locate their nest sites. Then you could try to capture some nestlings after the feathers are coming in and they have had the crop milk they need. Like around 2 weeks old is good because it is easy to finish feeding them and you can put them in your loft and they will stay and breed.

Trip and Rocky's babies are due any day now. She laid the first egg on April 13th, the second on the 14th. :pop

good idea, i will have to talk to the farmer if he knows where they are nesting. only issue is this farm/area is like an hour and a half away from where i live. i will have to look in to it.

thank you

okay wonder is there any special pigeon feed? like chicken feed. wondering what i should set out in the feeders?

also what would be a good cheap nesting site/box? am thinking using old buckets but not sure.
Chicken scratch or anything is fine to attract them, but if that's going to be their whole diet, get some grains and such. I would do corn, wheat, milo, oat groats, and peas if possible. They will love it! Old buckets will be prefect.

thank you, i will look around for some good grains and such for them. plan to set up a lot of feeding sites for them as am not down in the area often, so i want it to be self sustaining for some time.
