Pigeon Talk

The "big pigeon" paid my two a visit today. :p
If you would have banded him you would have needed one of these.

Not under my care. When I got them last October I was told they were "treated" and set to go but I'm not sure what that entailed. Should I get some dewormer?
The 4in1 has dewormer in it. If they have worms and you know what type you would be better to treat for that specific type but the 4in1 covers most things.

So I finally made a landing board and a trap door. I've been saying it but it's done. I think it's going to work well. I might need to adjust my bobs so they are a little higher. Fred seems to trap ok. Ricky is driving me nuts. He only likes to fly in through the main doors. I guess I need to build a cage to train them.

Nice:thumbsup
Here are just some of my ideas for you to consider. Pix of sketches I did on top of video capture.

The length of bobs is too long for opening. Makes it more difficult for pigeon to easily enter with just slight push. 2 ways to correct this. Cut the bobs where I marked with red, or make the opening the height of the bobs. (my preference).
In blue, I suggest making a U-shaped frame from wire/rod or whatever you have on hand. This would open up all the bobs at your desire, and a string could hold them open.
In black, I sketched a landing shelf for the inside of loft. This would allow for a short stop for your pigeons as they would be in and out thru the open or closed bobs.
The bobs being open, would allow the pigeons to learn and teach their offspring squabs, that "this is where we go in":thumbsup
You can also make a removable cage type of cover for the outside landing platform. Keep bobs open and let pigeons visit their patio at will. This would further train them where the door to home is.
Something like what CCUK has in this pix.

I would also make the bottom of opening, and outside landing board same height.(or landing board 1/4 inch lower) Pitch level of landing board slightly downward to drain off rainwater.
Post a link for the bobs, so other peeps reading can easily find them. Price is very fair in my opinion.:)
I know my sketching is not the greatest, but it does convey the thought/message. I did it free-hand using my

I'll order it right away, though it might not arrive before I'm gone for a few days.
On another note, the squabs are already able/willing to eat by themselves.

Nice! Dazzle is starting to eat some on her own too.

So I’ve been preoccupied with ducks again. Hatching, more hatching, and had one I thought I lost to a hawk today! Hubby was sitting on the back porch, the ducks were all in the open yard. They all took off flying for cover, but one female youngster flew the wrong direction. Hubby ran out with the shotgun, was coming back to the yard when I stepped outside. He said he thought it got one. So we walked around for an hour, looking for the duck, or pile of feathers/evidence. Nothing. I watched all my camera footage, and just knew she was eaten. The hawk was right on her tail!

About 2-1/2 hours later, I hear a call (she’s a call duck lol) that seemed distant. I saw her running outside the fence! She came back, not a scratch on her, so I guess she hid. I was so relieved!

I was doing my nightly check, and Bugsy was in a nest bowl. I felt under her, and I’ll be darned, 2 eggs! And Bonnie now has 1. So I guess I have more squeakers on the way too. Population explosion at the DuckChick house! (not even mentioning chickens! Lol)

Wow! Into your 2nd generation already! How fun! Glad the duck made it!
