Pigeon Talk

Blue or brown what? Bars?
Bars or checks, any pattern. The males will be ash red and split for the fathers color. The females get their color from dad.

Example Doba's(red check hen) sons. One was ash red bar, often called silver. The second one was ash red check. Both of her daughters were blue bars from their dad.

Oh, ok. :) thanks.
You only have to wait until you can tell the color of the feathers. So not long.
Hens only have one 'gene' for color on the chromosomes. Males have two, one from each parent. So if the baby get ash red from mom and blue or brown from dad the he will show the dominant color ash red and carry the blue gene hidden. Visible flecks of blue in the white feathers indicates this.

I gotta get reading on genitics!

I think the easiest way to remember sex linked in pigeons is if the female is a more dominant color than the male, you’ll know as soon as you can tell the squabs color. Right?
Ash red >> blue >> brown.

And BP, I’m up to 14 with 3 eggs developing. :)
