Pigeon Talk

Oh my GOSH!! I got home a couple hours ago, both Bugsy and Skye were away from the nest. I looked at the egg, and it was crushed all the way down one side. I feared it was dead. I peeled a bit of the shell pieces away, and I’ve assisted so many chicks and ducklings, I could see that the membrane looked good. It was still warm, but I didn’t feel any movement. As I peeled more away, the beak opened! It was malpositioned and couldn’t break out. It looked like they tried to save it, but had given up. I broke it out and left it laying on the bottom half of the shell. A few minutes later, Skye went back to the nest.

I just checked, and ITS ALIVE!! :love
I got lucky to find it just in the nick of time.
That's amazing! I hope it does well.:fl

you are very very lucky I'm so glad you saw it when you did!

Ps: read post 6812 please!

x2

also if you don't have a Lucky already, I recommend that name for that particular squab. Glad to hear everything worked out.
good idea for a name, but I believe she is on G names. She going in alphabetical order.

Any signs of the lost bird?

Right, I forgot ;)
No sign of him. I let his brother out and he flew around for about 30 minutes in case he was holed up somewhere nearby in the hopes of drawing him in but no luck. I'm thinking he was probably killed by something as they stuck by each others side the entire time they were up in the air and it seems unlikely to me they'd have become separated, especially because the missing one was the one I considered to be the smarter of the two.

me to. Well, not mine. They don't have a perch\branch to line up on.

so how big is your dirt floor setup? Like the whole thing? And how many sections are in it? Whenever I get land that's what I want to do. Dirt floors seem to work really well. I'm liking mine.

Sorry I missed this post! :D
The whole area is 8’x16’ it was originally two 8x8s that I combined. The metal roof is probably 7.5 to 8’ high.
It had 2 chicken boxes, about 6’ wide, that the bantams slept in. Bonnie and Clyde claimed the first one, Bugsy/Skye are in the other. Duff/Breezy nested in a double high chicken nest box I had made. I will probably add a vertical divider down the middle of the big boxes so two pairs can use each box, once the babies are out.

Duff/Breezy got the G names (Garbo and Galaxy), so Bugsy’s should be an H name.
She didn’t like it, but I just checked and the squab is still alive. :)
