Pigeon Talk

Sorry for the slow response... been busy with road training the youngsters. Yes the lime is a powder. It's called hydrated lime (the same kind used for whitewashing). You might want to read up on it a bit though as it's a very caustic substance (get's very hot with the water). It's also the kind of thing where you would need to keep the birds out of there for a while or else it will burn their feet. I'm not even totally sure where to buy it, but I'm guessing some kind of masonry supply place would have it ( I think it's also called builders lime or masons lime or something like that). Back home we used to use it on the farm for whitewashing the barns and for disinfecting... it's been a long time since I have messed with it so my memory is a little foggy haha.
okay. Thanks!

And can you please post some more pics of your birds? :) they are pretty!

I usually do not quote myself:gig I do have a lot of friends here that are willing to help me out. I went out this morning ,,,,, and sure enough,,,, a flock of starlings to greet me. :love.. BP, did you by chance instruct some of yours to fly north to the Cave Loft:)???
no, but I think there tired of my pigeons hanging out with them... and packed up and went north! My birds always fly with them, I guess for safety. I don't mind, as long as they don't start trapping! :gig

This piece of grass finally grew close enough to the wire bottom on the loft that he was able to grab it.

@Qwerty3159 he does look happy with his piece of grass! How are they all doing after the hawk scare? Have you got any more done to the aviary?
This has been my busiest college year so far so not as much as I had hoped but we are moving along. The roll of wire should arrive today and I should be able to have it mostly finished over the weekend. After that it will just be a matter of getting somebody to help me move the loft up to the aviary as I have to both go up a set of stairs and go around the entire house with it lol
As for the birds they've all been fine. Yesterday when I fed them I saw a Coopers did a quick pass through the yard, not sure if he was looking for pigeons or my wild birds. It does make them nervous when the hawk does that but I think they know by know that they're safe in the loft.

Nothings easy is it! It will be worthwhile in the end. Don't forget your gloves with the mesh, I still have scars from doing mine!
