I just saw the first here in TN... Yesterday I think. For some reason unknown, I have not seen a single starling this year.
Usually in past years they were always around.
I have no quarrel with any species of animals
There is a place for each.
Mosquitoes and flies are not animals![]()
Alright guys! 49 days till october 26th! The Louisville pigeon show! Is anyone planning\hoping to go? I will be there!
I know it's a ways for most... Probably to far for CCUK...@WVduckchick ? Your kinda close, 5 hours maybe? @cavemanrich I bet there will be some white homers, highflyers, ferals and such there!
JUST?? No, I understand... It is a ways, then you have to eat and sleep. The show is free though! Not likely that I’ll make that trip. I’d love to, but that’s quite a ways to travel just for a pigeon show. I’d do it, but my husband would think I was nuts. Well, more nuts lol
One of these years, maybe, if I ever get to really breed and show them.
JUST?? No, I understand... It is a ways, then you have to eat and sleep. The show is free though!besides $5 parking.

Sorry for the slow response... been busy with road training the youngsters. Yes the lime is a powder. It's called hydrated lime (the same kind used for whitewashing). You might want to read up on it a bit though as it's a very caustic substance (get's very hot with the water). It's also the kind of thing where you would need to keep the birds out of there for a while or else it will burn their feet. I'm not even totally sure where to buy it, but I'm guessing some kind of masonry supply place would have it ( I think it's also called builders lime or masons lime or something like that). Back home we used to use it on the farm for whitewashing the barns and for disinfecting... it's been a long time since I have messed with it so my memory is a little foggy haha.Ok thanks. What type of lime? Like is it powder?
haha! I think you'd should let doba hatch a clutch.
what type of birds? for meat? I don't think that's gonna work. if you had, say a barn loft, and put racers in it, and gave them a can of whole corn a day, that would be all it takes to keep them close... Dont take any of the young, have a tiny 4 inch by 8inch door for them to get in, (so hawks\owls don't get in) it might work. One year you may have 15, the next 4, then in two years have 60... But if you are taking them for meat, and it's is a real small coop, (compared to a barn loft) they will stick around, but slowly get picked off. Does this help?
Well that sounds like a good solutionI never thought about it but my brother has a woodworking shop. He makes kitchens and furniture. He will have a pillar drill AND decent drill bits. He could cut and drill the wood in quick time. I can assemble at home. I may see him tomorrow and I'll ask.
