Pigeon Talk

I have one pair that is papa and daughter! That's so not right it's of the scale but what can I do?! :idunno
In my understanding, genetically it is acceptable to breed parent to offspring. What is to be avoided is sibling to sibling. This is info that I read about breeding ,,,,,, on a thread about SOP chicken breeding.
Not sure how it applies to pigeons, if in a negative way.:idunno(sibling to sibling)

Seriously. Any of the stupid things people do in relationships pigeons do. I've seen hens catching their mates breeding other hens throw a 'S' fit - beating up the other hen and then their mates.
I have posted sometime ago on one of these pigeon threads, but cant recall which.:idunno My suggestion about calling Jerry Springer to have a program dedicated to pigeon infidelity. :gig:lau:oops:

That's scary. There are tall trees where hawks nest close by me.:hit

My moment of truth arrived one day after I ran down a Cooper's hawk carrying one of my pigeons. They would come down from above, grab a bird, and fly/glide away to eat them. Hawk carrying pigeon went down my driveway, across road, and into neighbor's flower bed - me in hot pursuit. Hawk left pigeon which I scooped up and started home - thinking, "I am getting too old for this. I'll have a heart attack." At that point the bird in hand, a beautiful ash red cockbird, twitched, and gushed blood through my hands in his death throes. I mentally said, "I can no longer justify doing this." I offered the birds for free on the NBRC website, and within days they were gone.

I was just wondering, do any of yall not have chickens but pigeons?

@sourland do you still have pigeons? I know that you dont have rollers like you did due to bop, but do you have any?

I have close to 100 chickens (haven’t counted recently), 7 Call ducks, and the 4 (hopefully soon to be 2 more) pigeons.

I have too many chickens to count, 12 call ducks and 3 geese ..

That would be a funny episode. :gig
@backyard pigeons, I gave them all away over 4 years ago. I miss them, but due to the tall trees surrounding my property it is just a killing zone, and I can no longer justify having them.
:hugs:hugs:hugs

That just breaks my heart! :hit:hugs

I have, but for me the real joy was in the flight/performance of the birds. Breeding to improve the performance was my goal, and I was succeeding.
That must have been the hardest decision to make. :hugs I really feel for you. That you had to give up because of that. I love raptors. They are truly magnificent birds but to see them come and take what you have spent years working towards is heartbreaking. I have alot of tall trees at the back of my property but fortunately they are resident to alot of crows. The only worry I have at the moment is the feral hunters that are out at weekends shooting pheasants, rabbits and pretty much anything that has fur or feathers.
